chaddy
....., the green peice in that case isnt the canopy frame however, it MIGHT be part of the engine bearer/ cowl but not sure Well there is part of a foot in that photograph that gives an idea of scale. Wez
Prpretty damn sure its the port elevator off a p51 Mustang, the green peice in that case isnt the canopy frame however, it MIGHT be part of the engine bearer/ cowl but not sure P-51B with a Malcolm hood - now there's a possibility... Wez
Pretty sure its not the Malcolm hood either am convinced its the port elev off a P51though The green part looks like the forward frame of a sliding canopy with it's grab handles, these wouldn't be needed in a standard canopied P-51, I can't see it being for a P-51D because they've just released a P-51D so wouldn't need to do the research again which is why I'm erring towards either a P-47D (or even better an N) or the P-51B with a Malcolm hood... ...I must say I like this game. Edit. Just compared the elevator in the IPMS Stockholm picture with the first photo, I'd go along with P-51B... markjames68
Its definately not part of a p51 canopy frame im convinced, this is drivin me mad but gotta say im bl####y lovin it!!! It would have to be for a new tool 48th or re tool24th though for a P51 but you would have thought they would have got info when measuring up for the 72nd so it makes me doubt my veracity!! swordfish fairey
I agree with the P-51 elevator, and the green bit could well be this..... Smudge Edited September 11, 2012 by swordfish fairey
Procopius
Per Airfix, it was a photo of a P-51D, in reference to their "recently-released" 1/72 P-51D. There's the vague possibility they might show photos for an upcoming unreleased kit in the future. Bunch of teases, if you ask me. Harrumph! Wez
I agree with the P-51 elevator, and the green bit could well be this..... Smudge Yep Smudge, you're right, I looked at the picture and saw grab handles, now I've taken a proper look at it those grab handles are good old fashioned brackets to quote Winnie the Pooh "I have been foolish and deluded"! Procopius, You're right, they are a bunch of teases, I think we all assumed it was something they're working on for the future... ...oh well! Bloody good game though. jenko
Having gone through every photo of a P51 I can find, I can safely say that the top pic. is not part of a P51. I took a good look at a Meteor last night and it's not that either. I have to agree with Swordfish Fairey that the hoop section is almost probably the part of the P51 he indicated. Are these two different aircraft ??

The Velociweiler
Remember that all they've said is that their research team took the photos. There's no tacit commitment here to releasing a new kit of whatever they've depicted. Maybe a teasing implication, but no more. Personally I think they'd be silly to produce - say - a new 1\48 Mustang, but that's just personal opinion.

jaw
Oh - if it is a P47 or P51 do we REALLY need another one?? Especially when there are so many other aircraft that should be modelled! John
Wez
Oh - if it is a P47 or P51 do we REALLY need another one?? Especially when there are so many other aircraft that should be modelled! John We get this question every time a manufacturer releases a model of a subject that's already been kitted to which the answers are: 1. Tamiya's 1/72nd P-51D makes no money for Airfix and vise versa. 2. We need manufacturers to release kits of subjects that have already been released in order to improve the breed otherwise we'd still be making Frog-Penguin kits of certain subjects. 3. If it was a P-47 then yes we really do need a mainstream P-47N - Italeri's version is not even a comical caricature of the type - see comment 2. Personally I welcome Airfix's latest P-51D, it looks like a nice kit and I can afford far more of 'em than I can Tamiya's so it gets my vote! Wez Yea but it just seems to us average modellers that its the same old same old. What about a catalina for example? There cant be many of them knocking about.
