Procopius
Airfix posted these on facebook with the comment: "Here is a picture sent through from our development team. Can you guess the aircraft from this photo taken on a recent research trip?" I can't, but perhaps you can.

heloman1
The skin is too wrinkly and the panel line joint/shut line is too wide for something so modern. I think maybe a Skyraider but I'd rather have an S-55/Whirlwind. Colin on the Africa Station

chrisrope
If it is, early marks I hope. If they are Lightnings bits, which bits are they?
jenko
There was a posting on here (I believe in the past month or so)(I've had a look and can I find it ........NO!!!) that Airfix had been measuring up a lightning. Everyone was speculating that it was for a 1/72 release. Top picture I think is an aileron and the bottom one I think is part of the cockpit framing. However that looks very much like US interior green......... As they say in school................... Discuss...........
chadders
What would be that shade of green on a Lightning?
andy wood
someone on facebook posted a pic of a P51 tail to compare, and I have to sayit looks pretty close. The hinge detail and the panel line behind it match, but the trim tab is smooth. As there is no actuator arm for the tab visible, I would say this could be the port wing or tail. andy wood
Too easy........................... EE Lightning Hard part ....... which mark ??? I dont think it is. The Lightning cockpit frame is a much beefier affair and that looks like US interior green to me. Good game this, is'nt it?
Max Headroom
What kind of a teaser is that if it's P or F-51 cos we've already got one!! Unless......... 1/48 or 1/24 retools? Trevor
Giorgio N
I agree with Jenko that the top picture looks like an aileron but it might also be an elevator... and in this case it would not be a Lightning. Actually even if it's an aileron, it looks like having a trim tab and I'm not sure the Lightning's aileron had a trim tab, so I'm afraid that if my identification of the parts is right then this is not a Lightning (at least not the EE variety). What's interesting is the presence of mushroom head rivets on what looks like a trim tab while the rest has flush head rivets
jenko
I think we can say from the first picture that it is a natural metal finish airframe. Andy....why do I keep getting Bruce Forsyth saying in my brain......... "Good game. Good game" ??????????? John
Looking at the first photo I'm thinking "Royal Navy". Specifically, I'm thinking "Seahawk". John

"Good game. Good game" ???????????I think that is a painted High Speed Silver finish as opposed to natural metal. If that is correct, that would narrow it down to British postwar, would'nt it? eagle
Why would a serious model company like AIrfix be writing such nonsense on Faceache. Why not proper modeling sites. Such as this one
keefr22
...... that Airfix had been measuring up a lightning. But why would they need to, when they could just downscale their superb 1/48th kits? If they were measuring up for a 1/72nd one I hope they don't c*ck it up!!! Wez
Much as I'd like that to be an EE Lightning, I think it's actually a P-47 Thunderbolt... ...where do I claim my prize??? Wez
PhoenixII
Why would a serious model company like AIrfix be writing such nonsense on Faceache. Why not proper modeling sites. Such as this one Because that's the way todays young communicate. My youngest is off to Uni this weekend, she's going to be like a person with their hands cut off, as she's going to do a nursing degree, and there'll be NO mobile phone use on the wards :wicked: !! Wez
Really? It looks dark grey to me. John Take your sunglasses off John! I'd go with silver paint rather than natural metal - no tonal difference between the rivets and the sheet metal or the various panels.. markjames68
Prpretty damn sure its the port elevator off a p51 Mustang, the green peice in that case isnt the canopy frame however, it MIGHT be part of the engine bearer/ cowl but not sure
