Revell 1/350 Type VIIC U-boat

These Revell u boats have really nice detail and are pretty easy to put together. I'm sure you could go nuts with photoetch, but this is straight out of the box. My only complaint is there is no swastika on the flag (as usual), but I'm sure replacements can be found. I was just too lazy to go looking. I used White Ensign Models Kreigsmarine pants, which are fantastic.

U-81 had a reasonably long and successful career in WW2, going on 17 patrols and sinking 24 ships including HMS Ark Royal while deployed in the Meditarranean. No U boat would survive the war in that theatre and U-81 met her fate on January 9th 1944, when a US bombing raid on Pola sank her, killing two crew members. U-81 was raised and broken up several months later.

Hi Brad,

I like this, nice straight from the box model. I'm working on this one myself and envisaged completing in the same scheme. What colours did you use? I'm guessing you used Schieffsbodenfarbe for the main hull, Hellgrau and Blauschwartz for the disruptive splinter and Dunkelgrau for the decks. I'm using Dougie Martindale's article as a reference for mine.

Nicely build U-boat!

I do have one small comment; there should be no rust underneath the waterline because the lack of oxygen in water.

Of course, if the boat should lay in a drydock for a while, there would be rust everywhere.

Anyway, nice looking model :thumbsup2:
