Kiwi Boy
Hey all. I have pulled out my Airfix 1:48 Sptifre Mk.IX (Mark 9) kit and am not of the colours stated in the instructions. I have converted the numbers to my prefered choice of paint to Tamiya and Xtracrylix however they don't appear right. Can some suggest some appropriate colours for a standard Spitfire camouflage of dark grey, green and light grey for the undrside please. The I will be very greatful for the help. Also does anyone have any photos of Mk.IX wingtips?
thx6667
Dark green, ocean grey and medium sea grey - the kit shoul specify Humbrol 30, 106 and 165 which is correct though I'd prefer 163 over 30 myself.
spitfire
Tamiya did bring out some new paints when they released their 1/32 scale Spitfire IX, here's a link http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/60319spitfire_mkixc/index.htm Cheers Dennis
Kiwi Boy
Dark green, ocean grey and medium sea grey - the kit shoul specify Humbrol 30, 106 and 165 which is correct though I'd prefer 163 over 30 myself. The kit specifies 30, 106 and 64. I looked on the cybermodeler website for their references and for a faded or scale effect scheme it made these conversions: 30 - Tamiya XF-65 Field Grey 64 - Tamiya XF-22 RLM Grey 106 - Tamiya XF-66 Light Grey However using this website: http://www.paint4models.com/ I get these colours: 30 - Tamiya XF-61 Dark Green 64 - Tamiya XF-19 Sky Grey 106 Tamiya XF-24 Dark Grey Tamiya did bring out some new paints when they released their 1/32 scale Spitfire IX, here's a link http://www.tamiya.co...mkixc/index.htm Cheers Dennis Thanks for that. I will look those colours up as a possible option.
Kiwi Boy
OK just done comparisons with Cybermodeler references, Tamiya colours from the 1:32 kit and straight conversions from Humbrol to Tamiya. It would seem that for the purposes of scale reducing from 1:32 to 1:48the following colours may be the best option: 30 Green - Tamiya XF-61 Dark Green 106 Ocean Grey - Tamiya XF-24 Dark Grey 64 Light Grey - Tamiya XF-19 Sky Grey Obviously depending on what colour primer I use, these colour may darken or lighten depending on how they react. Thanks for any help
Andrew Jones
If your taking the Tamiya route , then you need, XF-81 Dark Green XF-82 Ocean Grey XF-83 Medium Sea Grey These were specially formulated for release with Tamiya's 1/32 Spitfire.
