Bit of a review: http://www.ipmsusa3.org/reviews/Details/Aircraft/Gator_Mask_72_Viggen/Gator_Mask_72_Viggen.htm

If you google it, 1 fellow at least seemed to have a rough time using these.

Tarangus and MPM announces the first test shots of the forthcoming Saab 37 Viggen in 1/48 scale!
"The Viggen is an iconic aircraft which has been somewhat neglected from a modeling perspective. There hasn’t been a new kit for at least 30 years”, says Fredrik Zetterberg from Tarangus. “We had considered making the Viggen for some time when we were approached by Tarangus”, says
Jiri Silhanek, CEO of MPM, “it was just a golden opportunity for both companies.”
MPM is a well known brand for modelers worldwide, having produced many classic kits with an ever
improving quality for many years. Tarangus is a younger company, specializing in aircraft with a history in the Swedish Air Force. Together they have developed the new 1/48 scale kit. Tarangus will release the first version, the JA 37 fighter version, in the first months of 2014. The MPM versions will follow in early summer 2014. In 2015, Tarangus will release the final versions.
The kit is designed using the same CAD system used by Airbus and thus ensures a perfect fit of the
parts. The design, combined with the smart layout of the parts in the steel mould, ensures that all
versions will be possible to make. This includes all the differences between the versions, including the longer fuselage of the JA 37 Viggen fighter version and the different spine of the two-seater Sk 37.
“We’re very happy to work with MPM on this kit. Tarangus has previously only used short run technology for its kits, but the Viggen deserved an all metal mould”, continues Fredrik Zetterberg, “and the result is actually better than I dared hoping for!”

"We look forward to this kit", says Jiri Silhanek, "and hopefully it’s the start of a beautiful relationship!"

Glad they chose to do the proper fuselage lengths for JA & AJ, everyone else just ignored it.

Tarangus updated their homepage yesterday with the testshot pic shown above by Homebee and this text below:

"Viggen test shot at display

The first test shot of the new Tarangus Saab JA 37 Viggen in 1/48 scale can be seen at the Wentzels Hobby shop in central Stockholm, Sweden.

Even though it’s only the first test shot (we’re up to three test shots now), you can still see the high quality of the kit. This is truly a kit worth waiting for!

We’re grateful for the patience shown by our customers and hope to be able to send out the kits before summer!

We have more releases planned for this year – keep watching this space!"

This is truly a kit worth waiting for!

I bloody well hope so! I want one so badly that my stash reduction has begun in order to satisfy my shelve's demands for at least two of these. One of the most iconic Cold War aircraft in my humble opinion.

I'm looking forward to this kit, the Viggen is a good-looking aircraft! Hopefully they will add a bit more surface detail, some fasteners seem notably absent...?

Or am I being too picky? I realise this is still a test-shot.

It looks a bit sparse on panel details. And at the price I think this is not pitpicking. But let's wait what will hit the shelfs.

I'd rather prefer to rescribe some lines but have a correct shape than to cut and shut... Still I hope neither will be needed :-)

Well gents,

Being one of the owners of Tarangus, I hope I can clear things out!

First of all, we post more info on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/tarangus) than we do on our website. The simple reason is that we want to keep the website "clean". Only things that actually look good should be on there. My quick build of the test shot didn't qualify. Maybe we should reconsider that policy?

Second of all, those two round things that you seen in the wheel bays are hatches, not injection marks! Unfortunately, they'll be mostly covered when the doors are assembled. But we'll know it's there!

Right now we're awaiting the fourth test shot. Please bear in mind that the Viggen is our first kit made in an all metal mould. It's 98% finished, but the devil is in the details.. Should be ready during summer though!

Best regards

Fredrik Zetterberg

The brand new JA 37 Viggen in 1/48 is nearing completion and will be launched very soon. We will exhibit at the IPMS Scale Model World in Telford in November and we will definetely bring the kit with us to that event.

In the meantime, check out our reference gallery as well as complete production list of all JA 37 Viggens (with links to images) here on our site! Click here to be re-directed! http://www.tarangus.se/all-new-viggen-model/reference-gallery-ja37-viggen/
