Thoughts on the 1/72 SMER Fairey Firefly FR1

Considering gettng an SMER 1/72 Fairey Firefly FR1, is it good or not (raised or engraved lines, fit etc), whos moulding is it?

I have a suspicion that it's the old Frog mould. (you can probably imagine what that means in terms of detail etc...)

Yes, sadly for you, but it's not the only one as the review suggests. There is also the Special Hobby kit. The Frog kit is fairly accurate in outline although a blank of something will be needed in the intake, and a fair bit of work generally. I suspect Falcon transparencies will be required.

There was a Smer hi tech boxing which gave vacform canopies and etch.

The Il2 is pretty well unique in being a SMER tooling. Their range is almost completely reruns of older manufacturers, especially Heller but some Frog and others including Merit!
