Scale: 1/48

Kit: Testors Laird Solution

Built as: Aircraft NR-10538, entered into the Thompson Trophy Race in Chicago, 1930

Built using: Scratch-built cockpit and wing ribs and rib tapes. Rigged using Nickel Silver 0.33mm wire. Painted using Alclad, Tamiya and Mr Metal Color paints. Finished with Alclad varnishes

Montex/Alley Cats Hawker Fury 1, 1/32. Resin kit with Eezeline rigging. The cowlings are covered in chrome Bare Metal foil. Not too disappointed with it for a first attempt but I may go back to Alclad for any future representations of this finish! Other than that all OOB.

Kit: Williams Brothers Pitcairn PCA-2 Autogiro

Built as: NC11609, "Miss Champion", 1931

Built using: Scratch-built cockpit and rotor head, fishing line and n/s rod rigging, kit decals (except rotor) and painted with Tamiya, Alclad and Xtracrylix paints.

This is my finished Revell Dornier Do-X

1/144 scale.

Hull covered in Scotch-Cal, upper fuselage, wings, tail plane sprayed Humbrol polished aluminium.

Base is a wooden place mat with filler waves, painted with Humbrol blue acrylic 15.

Wake is Vallego acrylic foam.

The windows/portholes are Micro Krystal Klear.

More RAF interwar. Like Like Bulldog, 1/48. Alclad stainless steel for the cowling areas with white aluminium for the rest. Turnbuckles fom Albion Alloys (great fun threading them on to the Eezeline rigging!) & decals from Model Alliance.

Kit: Williams Brothers Corben Super Ace

Built as: 13697 tourer, 1934

Built using: Scratch-built cockpit details, brass rod tail struts, n/s rod rigging and control wires, kit decals and painted with Tamiya and Alclad paints.

Kit: Airfix 1/48 Spitfire Mk Ia

Subject: 19 Squadron Spitfire WZ-C (believed to be K9799) from Duxford in April-May 1939.

Modifications and differences from BoB era Spits are as follows:

2 bladed Watts fixed pitch propeller (from Airfix kit)

Different antenna mast (also from the kit)

flat sided canopy (sliding portion from Falcon Spitfire special set, front and rear sections stock Airfix

Ring and bead gunsight (modified from Monogram P-40B)

Armor plating removed from seat and headrest

True Details Photoetch seatbelts extended with tape

Browning gun flash suppressors added to outer gun ports

Heater duct exhaust ports added to bottom wing

Rudder guard added to top of the tail

Early style forked pitot-static port added to left wing

Carved crowbar off the escape door (crowbar wasn't added until late in the war anyway)

Drooped elevator control surfacesa

Antenna wire added with smoke tinted invisible thread

Scale: 1/6

Kit: Pratt & Whitney Wasp R-1340 radial engine

Built OOB, with only a couple of bits of brass, plastic, and wire added.

Finished with Tamiya spray cans and brush acrylics. Weathered with Flory Models washes.

From Macquette 'Commercial/Vernon' boxing, ex-Frog, 1/72, with scratch-built trainer nose and engine bearers, and detailed engines from two Matchbox Siskin kits.

A little late, blame Google and their malware paranoia, not me! (finished Friday)

Here's my Gloster Gladiator I, 87 Squadron, RAF Debden 1938

Modifications from Heller 1:72nd kit as follows:

  • Full rescribe of metal panels and rivet detail.
  • Heavily trimmed down Vector resin Mercury engine, with scratchbuilt pushrods and cowling braces
  • Pavla prop, wheels and decals.
  • Fully scratchbuilt interior from plastic stock (only the control column is a kit part)
  • Tailheel modified from Harrier outrigger wheel (yes, I lost the kit wheels...)
  • Quickboost resin Browning barrels.
  • Kit fully rigged (I'm not happy with the radio antenna, but the rest is OK
  • Paints are Revell Aqua silver mixed with Vallejo white, and Humbrol roundel blue (Hu25)
