Tamiya's 1/35 King Tiger

So,

I have finally crumbled and got myself a Tiger, a King Tiger nonetheless! Bought at the Billericay show from Collectakit, I'm already falling into the A/M trap... Bought a metal barrel and some etch grille covers, might have splashed out on some metal tracks.

Just ordered an Osprey King Tiger book off Amazon too!

I'm looking forward to trying something different, not looking forward to the wheel painting though.

Ruari. KT wheels were steel rimmed. So just spray them camo colours then do the rims in a worn metal colour.

Steve

P.s. You realise the next step is a 1/16 Fallschirmjager! :)

Thank God for that!

Nevermind 1/16, I was looking at a deactivated MG42 the other day...

Although they don't have all the bells and whistles of the Dragon kits the Tamiya King Tigers still scrub up quite nicely. I have one on the 'to-do' list but I'll be pinching detail items from the first Dragon KT with moulded on zimmerit as the zimm was awful (they are a lot better now).

I must admit as this is my first armour kit, I'm really impressed with level of detail provided, despite the kits age.

Looking forward to getting around to building it, quite an impressive beast!

yep that was me....... did you have your eye on it too? I have to admit i was torn between that and the dragon panzer 4 for £25.00 but I had already spent big time by then so couldn't really justify another £25

Yes bud, but I went for the Hase 1/48 F-14D on the same stand instead, then bought the King Tiger at Collectakit. Hood was right though, I've already added a Tiger 1 to the King!

Ivory and primer red. For REALLY good reference look at AFV Modeller Magazine David Parker's build of a Trumpeter King Tiger in 1/16th scale.

If THAT does'nt inspire you, nothing will :D

The Tiger I was ivory and dark grey inside. Have a look at the Tiger restoration pictures at the Bovington Tank Museum website

yep from the photo's and kit builds i've seen an off white/ ivory colour from an AMW build of a Jagdtiger i saw tamiya white with a smidge of tamiya buff, on the panther I did exactly that it worked out about 5:1 white to buff and looked ok

Like a lamb to the slaughter ... and then you go and visit Hannants as well! Doomed, you're totally doomed. :analintruder:

At least you've visited the 2 holy grails now, Hannants and Telford.

I know, I count myself as being very fortunate to have experienced both now, as some will sadly never experience either.

Fortunately Hannants were out of stock of Friul tracks for a Late Tiger1, so I've saved a bit of cash.

If you can wait for Fruil tracks I know they had a stand at Telford last year selling them for much reduced prices and they might do the same this year. I did'nt get any cos I was skint by the time I found their table :D
