As a result of the close-down of the UK by the British Government last night, we have made all the Buy/Sell areas read-only until we open back up again, so please have a look at the announcement linked here.

Hello Everyone

I would like to do a British Airways 787-8, but im unsure what colour to do the engines, it seems to be mixed. Some people seem to thin k they will be white, others think blue.

Does anyone know what colout they will be?

Thanks Bradley

actually, the engines can only be painted white (see Air India etc). You can apply logos on them, but nocolours, as they are made out of a special material. Boeing is working on a new paint to be able to apply airline's colors onto the engines. This should have an EIS of 2014. (so, if BAW gets theirs later, then:blue, before 2014: white)

I think BAW is going the same way as many other Airlines, they'll paint at least one in a special livery

As well as the engines, the wings are painted white as well, although Boeing is talking about offering other colours at extra cost, so nobody seems that interested

Makes it quite easy to paint really

the easiest B787 to paint, is the Ethiopian..... there is only the tail and then still the "ETHIOPIAN" ... (everything makable with decals)

oh, ah, and, they also have a black (not white) registration :)

but, I am curious to see that 787 in BAW colors :)

I have a feeling they will end up blue. However like our VAA-9's they will leave Boeing with white or Grey. But i think a seperate mod will be done to change the colour. The reason for this is that it voids Boeings specs for fuel burn using a special low drag paint, i beleive.

all of which is why it's better to wait until one, or better several, actually go into regular service..

then you'll know what colour is what

I would go with blue, you might see other colours if the aircraft have got loan items on it if bits have broken. Its quite common to see different coloured cowlings/intakes if items have been removed and replaced with loaned items.

It's easy to paint them blue later on if you paint them white now. It's not so easy to paint them white later on if you paint them blue now.

BA's website currently shows white engines for the 787 - http://www.britishairways.com/travel/press-office-images-aircraft/public/en_gb.

Boeing just say engine nacelles are to be 'single colour' for laminar flow reasons. QATAR 787s have grey engines, so BA's could still be blue.

Safest bet is to wait until the aircraft are delivered.

I've got to go to Japan in a few weeks time and have managed to book a routing via Frankfurt to fly on an ANA 787. Should be fun!
