Evenung all,

I have seen a profile of P/O Robert's 64sqn spitfire mk1 that I'd like to do in model form. The profile shows the left of the pla ne pointing to the left, and unusually (but not uniquely) shows the aircraft identity letter W before the sqn codes of SH. I've seen photos of other spits marked up like this, but there's nothing like a photo - have tried looking in all the normal places, but was wo dering if anyone had a book or link to a photo that might confirm this - or not! It woul d be appreciated if anyone has inf on this.

Hi Paul,

64 Sqn is a particular interest of mine as one of my relatives flew with them during 1940 and 1941 and I've gathered a fairly large amount of photos and info on them. I can tell you that 64 carried their sqn codes (SH) to the aft of the roundel on both sides so, yes, on the port side the codes are to the right of the roundel.

If you require anything else regarding 64 from this time let me know and I'd be happy to share what I have with you.

Cheers,

Tim

Sorry Patrick but the codes would have been M-SH on the port side.

This aircraft actually became the regular mount over winter '40/'41 of B Flight's commander, F/L Taylor, my relative's flight commander. I must have a look to see if he flew this airframe!

Cheers and I wouldn't fret too much about the codes being incorrectly placed as you've done such a wonderful job.

Tim

EDIT:

PS - Paul, Forgot to say that I'll have a dig around for a pic of K9964. I have a feeling I have a photo of her.
