PaulR
On lunch break at the mo, and have just realised it is Eagle Day, the start of some of the heaviest fighting of the Battle of Britain. Have got into a bit of a tradition - the last few years I have built BoB aircraft during the summer, and have posted them here on Britmodeller. The centre of my attention for the BoB has latterly come to be the 18th August (aka the 'Hardest Day') and I have, over the last few years, tried to build an aircraft that I can tie down to that specific date. This year it is a 1/72 rendition of Jeffrey Quill's 65 sqn mk1 that he used to destroy a pair (if I've got my facts right) of German aircraft on that day. Got my inspiration from the BoB memorial at Capel Le Ferne that I recently visited, where they have a replica of his aircraft. I've used the new Airfix kit, and have got as far as applying the underside colour; tonight is the top colours, and Thursday/Friday will be decalling. Will post on Saturday, all other things being equal. Next year? Dickie Lee's 85sqn Hurricane mk1, the one he flew in on that fateful Sunday . . . JMChladek
That is a nice idea actually. I might have a go at doing a Spitfire myself this weekend due to its BoB connection, but I am very tempted instead to do one of those early 19 Sqn birds with the two bladed prop and the original flat canopy (just because they looked so odd compared to the Spitfire colours, markings and features we all know and love).
