Erwin Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 (edited) Hi all, Most of you know that I've stopped modelling and that I've donated my models to the local Atlantikwall museum. But this project is something I wanted to do for a long time. Concider this as a "come-back". I will make a section of the beach obstacles and the defence bunkers as they were before D-Day. My first build is a MG 42 pill-box made from a light switch cover. As this has a smooth surface,I covered it with Revell Plasto and sanded it down just enough to show some concrete . jacksdad Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Ingenious. Nice one Erwin. Lovely to see you playing with plastic again. Steve
Frank.W. Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Hallo, very good structure of the surface. Best regards Frank

Erwin Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 Hi all, I started on another bunker. Made from a DIY plastic rainpipe part. It will be a personelbunker.Actually, half a bunker. As this will go at the back of the diorama and will be covered with sand, there's no point in making a whole bunker. I still need to do the entrances and other detailing. 1
Erwin Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 (edited) I made the entrances and added a rim on the roof that will be filled with sand as extra camouflage. Edited August 28, 2012 by Erwin 1
Erwin Posted August 31, 2012 Author Posted August 31, 2012 Hi all, I made extra protection for the entrances.Again made from DIY rainpipe.
Erwin Posted August 31, 2012 Author Posted August 31, 2012 (edited) Hi all, I've deleted the pictures of the wooden commandbunker.I wasn't realy happy with it. I will make a similar one out of the rainpipe. I also made a drawing today for a FLAK-bunker.More on that later. Edited August 31, 2012 by Erwin
Erwin Posted September 1, 2012 Author Posted September 1, 2012 Next bunker is the Italeri kit that will house a PAK 40.
Erwin Posted September 4, 2012 Author Posted September 4, 2012 (edited) The rough design for the FLAK bunker. Housing a 38 mm or 4x20 mm AA-gun.Haven't decided yet.Plus a MG/mortar emplacement. Edited September 4, 2012 by Erwin
Erwin Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 Started on the FLAK emplacement using only plasticsheet and balsa. 1
philp Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Got to watch this one. Have wanted to do several of the bunkers for D-Day dios in 72nd scale at some time. Have gathered several books on the subjects and even had a guy send me some pics of some old bunkers further north.
Erwin Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 I started on the command/observationbunker.Again made from DIY rainpipe. It looks a mess at this stage. But once finished it will look OK.
Erwin Posted September 14, 2012 Author Posted September 14, 2012 (edited) The commandbunker... I added a figure to give you an idea of the size of the bunker. The FLAK-emplacement is also done... Edited September 14, 2012 by Erwin
philp Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Looking good. What color are you going to use for the concrete look or are you going to do some bunker camo? I have thought of trying to do some of the "make it look like a house" camos on one or two.
Erwin Posted September 15, 2012 Author Posted September 15, 2012 The PAK bunker is ready for painting...
Erwin Posted September 15, 2012 Author Posted September 15, 2012 Looking good. What color are you going to use for the concrete look or are you going to do some bunker camo? I have thought of trying to do some of the "make it look like a house" camos on one or two. Normally it should be in the grey like I used on the pillbox. Bunkers painted like houses weren't that common on the beaches. They were found more inland at the edges of towns so they blended in more with the background. I found no pictures of bunkers on the beaches painted like a house. That doesn't mean there weren't any at all.
Erwin Posted September 24, 2012 Author Posted September 24, 2012 All the bunkers are done.It wasn't easy to find a good shade to paint them. It's a mix of several grays. 2
philp Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Are they going into one large diorama or a couple?
Erwin Posted September 25, 2012 Author Posted September 25, 2012 Are they going into one large diorama or a couple? The dio will be one piece about the size of a small kitchentable.
Erwin Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 (edited) Hi all, I decided to add one of the most used MG positions on the Atlantikwall. The Tobrukbunker... Edited September 27, 2012 by Erwin
Erwin Posted October 5, 2012 Author Posted October 5, 2012 I've made the base (112 cm x 61 cm) That should be about 110 m x 55 m of Atlantikwall. Bunkers, etc are dryfitted to give you an idea of the size. 1
