Wessex Cabin Window Question

Recommended Posts

The Italeri Walter is an HU.5 which had longer cabin windows compared to the RAF HC.2's so I was thinking, is there any reason why you couldn't make an HC.2 from the HU.5 with a little judicious rescribing/filling/painting? The only thing I could think of was whether the cabin windows were bulged which would make it more difficult but that's about it.

Does anybody know whether the HC.2 had bulged cabin windows or not as I quite fancy making an RAF Walter Wessex rather than a Pugwash one.

Can anybody help?

The windows are flat with one bulged on the port side at the front, the HU.5 had larger windows to allow the troops with full fighting order to exit the aircraft in an emergency (or that was what my Dad told me).

Try this link to the walkround section to aide you in your build. http://www.britmodel...estland +wessex

Has anyone been able to access that walkaround recently

When I click on that link I get the opening few lines, something of a picture then the whole of BM locks solid

I cant get in or out

(As a moaning old sod I tend to blame this new version of BM that will not even let me copy pictures I like to my drive)

I think the new software is image greedy and too demanding on my elderly hard drive...

If anyone else has a problem I will flag it up to Mike, but I wont make a fuss if its just me :(

Nimrod I think your idea, with certain considerations, is fine for the 1/72 scale Walter

I think/hope/believe we're discussing the 1/48 scale one

Which incidentally I saw "in box", today in my local shop

It took alarmingly strong will power not to buy it there and then and worry about "small windowing" it later

I have a club discount elsewhere and £25 is £25 at the local shop

but it was awfully hard just not to "buy it, you know you want to..."

Yes sorry, just looked at my OP and realised I hadn't specified scale - I was talking about the new 1/48th kit and already knew about cross-kitting the UH-34 with the HU.5 in 1/72nd but thanks to Nimrod for the tip, I'm sure there are others out there who didn't know about that.

This kit is on my wanted list, I don't know if I've the willpower to wait until my Birthday/Christmas, we'll see.

As Italeri are scheduled to release the H-34 in 48th scale (small cabin windows) you can take the same route as in 72nd. You will of course be left with a large window kit less a nose! You can of course build from the box the last of the RAF Wessex out in Cyprus which were ex Navy large window fuselage, they were painted in light grey the kit decals will/should do. I think Italeri got their knickers in a knot yet again!

Hi Colin you made a phopa the ex FAA Mk 5 where as per kit decals Green/Gray cam with black undersides blue UN band these came to Predannack but were shipped out before burning :jump_fire: . By which time there were plenty of spare Mk2 s it was five of the late models with RWR sensor & IR lanterns which were sprayed Camo Gray. I beleive these were the last Wessex in use. There is the Mk5 with 824 NAS with the blade folding farse yesterday !!!!you would think there was someone they could ask how to do it !!!! :banghead: ,which is rumoured to be made air worthy ,we can but hope they ask how to fly it :chair: Len

As Grizzly has said the last wessex in service with 84 Sqn were HC2s which were in the grey scheme After retiring the Wirlwinds 84Sqn were initally equipped with HC2s in the traditional yellow scheme which were in turn replaced with HU5s in the Grey/Green/Black scheme before they were replaced by more HC2s. Incidently the overal grey scheme wasn't confined to the Cyprus aircraft as some of 72 Sqn were also in this scheme. Apparently it was not suitable for use in Northen Ireland and I actually saw one that had been overpainted black.

I found pictures of the black one in NI, they did experiment with a couple of colour schemes on their Wessexii over there

I'm sure it wont take BM's modellers long to come up with alternative noses and large dollops of Milliput to get all the Wessexii under the sun

As for me, two or three weeks of not buying in cheapo lager for home consumption equals one Wessex ;)

Thats interesting that some 72 Sqn machines were also in Camo Gray, the black one my have been for night vision goggles to show up to ground troops .

I picked up lots of pictures of these oddball colours from pprune, but I dont have them online anywhere to provide links for

Shame this new set up doesn't let us post straight into the article from hard drives like many others do

I've pictures of "sky blue" (paleish-medium blue to my eye), "grey" and the black schemes

even more fascinating things to note about my favourite helicopter

You've either got hardware or software issues (maybe both). I can access the images and save them to my desktop with no problem at all.

As Jennings said all walkarounds are now acessable. There was a point during change over of servers where some went MIA for a day or so.

You can still right click save if you need to. Or click on the pic, brings up in a seperate window with a save option at the bottom.

I almost certainly do have hardware issues

My 'pooter is a few years old and unlikely to be replaced in the near future

She has a decent amount of memory for an old 'un but is about five or six years old by now and in need of a clear out

But I have accessed the walkaround

I had to click the link then walk away for ten minutes :)

I think I played a gentle game of Spider Solitude whilst she loaded up

No worries lads, I'm getting used to the changes

(not that I'll be Twittefacebooking anyone soon!)
