Wez Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Wotcha, Just back from my jolly hol's, found out there's this sprot thingy on called the hoi-limp-ix on - what's all that then? Also found that I've missed the start of the GB - oops! Thought I'd do a TF-104G and fancied doing an Italian jet - torn between colour schemes at the moment, there's this one (on AB Pic's) http://www.abpic.co.uk/popup.php?q=1351097 in the grey/green scheme, or there's this one (also fro AB Pic's) http://www.abpic.co.uk/popup.php?q=1152395 in the grey scheme. Current preference is for the grey scheme but I have a problem with the markings - specifically the flash with the "M" in it on the tail, the rest of it's not a problem as I have the Sky Decals sheet for AMI 104's. Anybody know of a source for that specific marking? Anybody got one going spare? We're talking 1/72nd scale here. I'm using the Revell TF-104 kit, the kit decals are shagged so I'd need to use after market ones. I'll post some pictures once I've got myself sorted out. Wez
Wez Posted August 12, 2012 Author Posted August 12, 2012 (edited) Can anybody provide confirmantion of the colours used in the undercarriage bays, the kit instructions state white but I don't have a whole lot of faith in them because their colour call outs in other areas are just plain, well, wrong. The Lock-On No.1 which deals pretty much with Belgian F-104's is none too clear on the colour of the main gear bay, it could be a mucky white or it could be an equally mucky very light grey as per the undersides on Belgian F-104's. The nose gear bay is shown as silver. The D&S book shows both of these areas as silver. I'm willing to believe the European jets differed from the Lockheed built ones but were the colours different dependent upon user? Did AMI F-104's differ from Luftwaffe or Belgian F-104's for instance? Any help will be gratefully received. Wez Edited August 13, 2012 by Wez
Wez Posted August 13, 2012 Author Posted August 13, 2012 So here's the kit, decals and references - as you can probably tell I like Starfighters me! Here's a close-up of the kit sprues (don't worry, the clear sprue is safely tucked away in the box) and the transfers: Here's a link to the Big H's site for a closer look at the decals: http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/SKY72062 The intention is to try and make the kit from the box, no faffing or tinkering, just making the bloody kit! That way I hope not to get sidetracked - which is a bit of a problem with me, short attention sp... Wez
Giorgio N Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Give me a day and I'll get back to you on the gear well. My memory tells me it's just aluminum, but I'll check a walkaround of an italian G and let you know. Speaking of decals, tauromodel did a sheet that included a grey TF, however they don't represent the same markings shown in the picture. http://www.tauromodel.it/italiano/72572.htm
Giorgio N Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Checked the pictures and can confirm aluminium/silver for the wheel wells. I've always had the impression that all Starfighters had aluminium wells, I'll have to check the Verlinden book better

Wez Posted September 22, 2012 Author Posted September 22, 2012 I've decided to withdraw from this and in fact all other group builds, I find that I put myself under a time pressure which life and modelling style can't support. I'm gonna start this new regime by taking on one of my Eduard MiG-21's. Good luck with the GB to you all. Wez
SaintsPhil Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Shame to see you leave the GB, but I know what you mean, they're too easy to sign up for and before you know it you've got 3 on the go at once! You'll love the mig by the way great kit, I just finished my first for CAS GB....
Giorgio N Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Sorry to hear you have to leave the STGB ! I hope you'll manage to build the kit anyway in the future. If this happens, please post pics, I'll be happy to see them!
Wez Posted September 24, 2012 Author Posted September 24, 2012 Thanks Phil and Giorgio, I'll see how the MiG goes... ...and then who knows? Wez
