Ford Zakspeed Turbo Capri 1979-82 Scratchbuild 1/12 scale

Recommended Posts

I would definately think about selling the wheels seperately. It is possible they would look superb under the arches of a Tamiya Datsun 240Z for example? Or a Revell 1/12 Mustang?

There are a few other 1/12 road cars too, but I can't think of any at the moment lol.

More work done!

I made a mold for the wheel nuts

3136343866396232.jpg

and one for the steering wheel

6633373632383264.jpg

Than all of my silicon was empty, until today the second delivery arrived..

3065653061623166.jpg

So i began to make the big mold and i thought i´m gone have some silicon left over.

3234393533656566.jpg

But that was false. The silicon was used with every little amount.

The rest on the top must be filled with fast resin.

Puh,that was close.

kind regards

Christian

@triumphfan:do you mean i should sell the complete wheel/tyre set or only the wheels?

I dont think about it now,but you mean there is a market for those wheel tyre combination?

Hi Christian,

it might be an idea to think about a price for selling a set of wheels. If it is reasonable you may find some people interested, you are on several forums so there may be interest from others. Ask for firm orders and cast to order. You may be able to make a few bucks to help pay for modelling projects.

The Australian chap 'Stump' produced some 1/12 wheels he had made and I think quite a few people bought those, not sure how many exactly. I got a set for my 240Z project and I was pleased with them.

1/12 wheels/tyre sets are quite rare in the aftermarket IMO

Just an idea.

Steve.

Yes,its done!

Looks like Hulk´s new toy!

3362366265633762.jpg

Before i started with this project,i got a bit nervous about using silicon for the first time.

But the result is good.

I will say thanks to www.trollfactory.de for the very good silicon. Its very easy to work with!

3431313535393864.jpg

Every little fence is formed very well.Even the panel lines and the small air intakes are there.

Thats fine!

6435373534306334.jpg

I screwed the frame to the mold again and it fits.

Next step will be the wax pattern.I will re pave the mold with 1mm and 2mm wax.At the end i will be an wall thickness of min 4mm.Some parts maybe a bit thicker?

3135633439376466.jpg

Thats enough for now.

Thanks for watching.

Hello,

some small progress on the wax sheets.

3230663964396437.jpg

I used at first the 1mm sheet and put it with a hairdryer in shape. Its easy to use.

3866336533393634.jpg

Second step was the 2mm wax sheet. You can put it down with your fingers and use the heat from the hair dryer.

The small gaps can be filled with plastilin after every sheet is in place.

Now i have too take a break, because my wife is using her hair dryer.

More to come soon!

I don't know,as I've never seen slush moulds made this way before, but just guessing, 3mm seems a little bit thin for a 1/12 resin body - I'm wondering will it warp, crack or deform when you demould it? And I think you'd have to strengthen things like the screen pillars? But as I say, I'm just guessing!

Hi,

today i make the first copy of the capri.

3364336638653366.jpg

i´m not 100% happy with it.

I destroyed the hood when i get the body out of the mold. But this was my fault and not the one from the mold.

3561646135643036.jpg

Here you can see the crack, but also the fine details of the air intake.

3463383161326164.jpg

At the back there are some bubbles.I think about a solution of less bubbles in the next copies.

3164663735616335.jpg

This is the inner core of the body.

6336343662643061.jpg

I want to put them inside, use resin and let them dry. After that i want to put them out first. But i forgot that step at the first attempt. The silicon was glue dth ethe inner core and dont get them out.So i had to put out the outer body first and at this step i cracked the body.

So i remove the silicon from the inner core and want to make another copy. But now the silicon want stick to the core. The simply fall down because of his own weight!

I try to fix it with tape, but that dosent worked.

I must think now how i can change this mistake?

kind regards

Christian

Hi,

finally its done!

I got the body ready for use.

Here is a pic of the modified inner core.

Now its made of resin until silicon.

3930663762353330.jpg

And here with the body v.2

6538323561333265.jpg

A look at the inside of the body.

3732636461663461.jpg

I changed the shape of the inner body,so now its a bevel of mold to put it easily out.

The weight is about 650g.I also improved the thickness of some parts of the walls and changed the look of the wheel houses. At the first version there was a lot of sanding needed. Now i made it more like the final shape of the car.

3837343337623834.jpg

3638353534636366.jpg

At the roof are some small sinks, but nothing big.

Some bubble at the back of the car,but also nothing spectacular.

6263303832313233.jpg

I can´t resist to put the wheels and the rear spoiler onto the car.

6232656238666638.jpg

3036633863643863.jpg

It look quiet good in my eyes.I'm really proud of the result.

Next step will be the windows and the grill.I will put them out.

Thanks for watching!

Fantastic, the ultra rare mustard yellow D&W car with the greyscale sponsors markings - you don't see that modelled every day!! I always wondered how the driver managed to see out when they colour coded the windows....:D
