rossm
Aviation News Vol 24 No 16 October 1995 had an article on Harriers at Chivenor. I forget the name of the exercise but please can anyone scan me the article? Ross Edited August 11, 2012 by rossm
XV107
If it helps, probably Hazel Flute which was usually at that time of year - although if memory serves there was another one - Hill Foil (?) in the late spring. If I'm correct about the Ex name, 'm guessing that Hazel Flute was the one covered in the October edition.

Don't recall exact date though, something to do with age, drove a truck from Laarbruch there and back. Oh HAPPY DAYS
vampiredave
Exercise 'Hilll Foil', 1 - 12 May 1995. Twenty-four Harrier GR.7s detached as part of continuing work up for NATO service over Northern Iraq. All three front-line Harrier squadrons (1, 3 and 4 Squadrons) sent detachments to conduct missions from a simulated 'bare base' site. Ex 'Hazel Flute', 11 - 23 September 1995. Two Harrier GR.7 squadrons (1 and 3 Squadrons). This was the Harrier force's TACEVAL (Tactical Evaluation) prior to its integration into the NATO Reaction Forces (Air) the following year. TEZ
As part of the BBC series The Defence of the Realm (1995/6?), one of the episodes covered life on a Harrier squadron - namely 1 Squadron. The documentary included their deployment to Chivenor. Highly recommended viewing. regards Andrew
