1/72 Airfix Nimrod MR2P

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Now i'm back off my course I can now get started on this, i will be doing XV230 as a tribute to my friend John Langton who died in this aircraft in 2006.

Just waiting on the Eduard exterior set to turn up

Hope I can do it justice

As I've never used these engine replacement sets before I thought this would be a good place to start then if I messed them up I could use my other kit and do it out the box :undecided:

img0858iw.jpg

Using my photos i've started opening up all the holes on top

img0860mj.jpg

Top set all in place now time to put the wings together

I also put the gear doors and wescam on at this point

While the glue is drying on the wings will crack on with the fuselage will post more photos soon

You've made a cracking job of putting that engine set onto the kit. :speak_cool:

I'm almost tempted to get a set for when I build the Nimrod.

Thanks for the comments I'm trying to push on with this project but struggling getting the wings to sit right on the fuselage but I will persevere

any way some more photos of where I am at the minute

I'm using my walkround photos I took while I was up at Kinloss so trying to put in all the raised details that are not in the Eduard set

img0863oq.jpg

img0862jf.jpg

Looking at the photos this hole is too far down the fuselage so moved it up a bit

img0865rc.jpg

img0868cx.jpg

Also thinned out the generators on the wings

img1003qz.jpg

Apologies for the photos i've not got the best lightning in the shed but i've achieved what I needed to with these hopefully get the wings sorted then onto the nose

Cheers Deacon

A bit more of an update

img1028yw.jpg

Cockpit together and attached to the fuselage, a bit of work needed here

img1031js.jpg

This side is good

img1032m.jpg

Right to get the glazing to fit was a nightmare, I furture I wouldnt spend the extra £26 on this set it has been a right cow ive had to put so much filler in it to get this effect Im dreading the unmask anticipating lots of green filler showing

img1070q.jpg

The rest of the etch brass going on

img1079h.jpg

img1075ap.jpg

I managed to ping the surround for the light and it got swallowed by the carpet monster so made one from plasticard its nothing like Eduards but it'll do

img1077j.jpg

Starting to look like a Nimrod now

img1073bk.jpg

Final picture for now the rescribing begins

Thanks for looking

Whoa Al, that looks like a lot of work and all excellently executed so far - a big improvement on OOB

Cheers Andy

All things considered I wish I had done it OOB, i've just had a week away and its a struggle to get back to it but i'll get on with it in the next couple of days

Hi all

I'm now on the painting, the light aircraft grey is Xtracrylix and the hemp is Gunze

img1110kj.jpg

Weathered with Flory wash and faded panels

img1115.jpg

img1117p.jpg

The canopy came out better than expected

Now onto decals and details

Thanks for looking
