ERMT-1 - Extended Routemaster Trolleybus (Version 1)

Recommended Posts

As has been mentioned by one or two others, a dual drive (three axle rigid) is considered normal throughout majority of the world. single drive with twin steer is more of a european thing due to tighter turning circles etc (someone please correct me if i'm wrong with that).

In the US, New Zealand and here in Australia we get upto 5 axle trucks, twin steer at the front with tri-drive at the rear, this is often used for heavy construction vehicles such as large tippers and cement mixers as well as occasionally for prime movers that specialise in heavy haulage and need to distribute the weight over a larger area. Here in Australia, it is common to see the Road Trains travelling through central Australia with single steer but tri-drive (and 3-4 trailers behind them).

Anyway, back to the bus. Mate, i have to congratulate you on what is by far the most impressive model of a bus (even if it is a 'what if') that i've ever seen. I had been impatiently awaiting Revells release of the RM as i desperately wanted to build one for my grandfather as he used to drive them before our family migrated over here to Australia. Unfortunately he sadly passed away a few weeks before the kit was released so i never bothered getting one but seeing builds like yours and a few that've been made on other forums, it really does spark the imagination.

Hello there.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my build. Yes I thought a lot about how to come up with the final configuration of the bus. I basically have gone with the most appealing look. I have found your research on configuration very interesting. I have had lots of feedback on this aspect of the build.

I do hope that you will go ahead with your own build. Sorry to hear that your Grandfather had passed away. I am sure that he would want you to go ahead with an RM build. Go for it, it's a great model to do. My RM was quite a big job, but the trolley was more challenging.

I have more work to do on my trolley, but work has halted her for a while. Watch this space I guess.....

Thanks again

David.

Hi Nige

I am seriously thinking of some overheads, frogs etc., but space is a premium in the flat...

Keep an eye out again, I guess

David.

David, that is an amazing piece of work! I've just spent an hour sitting here going through the whole thread - it's nearly telling me to build another Routemaster, but perhaps a 'what-if' in Southern National green! Beautiful job; thanks for sharing!

Hi Steve.

fabulous that you have been spending time reading my thread. It's been a great and challenging build. I still have plenty to do though. I am definately going ahead with a tram stop and overhead lines. This will require patience, space and time. Keep watching my friend and I look forward to seeing some of your possible "whatiffery"

David.

Lol that looks superb, although I reckon they should take pride of place in a display cabinet as they look so good. I sadly missed out on getting one of these kits cheap when Modelzone in Holborn were closing down - when I went in there everything was 25% off the marked price so that would have been £30 for one of these and then 2 days later it went up to 50% off but most things vanished within hours, so I missed my chance (I didn't fancy carting that big box on a train during rush hour :( )

Thanks for your comment. Much appreciated. I would love to put in display cabinet, but i'm restricted by space in my new and smaller flat. They are safe up there and will only need dusting off now and then. I have a large model ship on the other side. Anyway thanks again. Hopefully I will get chance to do some more work on her soon.

Hi there ,i would suggest that you DONT keep your models up there. If your kitchen is anything like mine thats where grease and cooking vapours end up and after awhile you will find the top of cupboards in a kitchen get minging.
