Sacks & boxes

1:35 Reality in Scale

These two sets from Reality in Scale are great for busying up a diorama, or adding some unusual content to stowage bins and the back of trucks. Both sets arrive in small crystal clear plastic boxes, and are protected by ziplok bags.

Potato/Vegetable Sacks (35148)

This set contains 12 bags of varying sizes and shapes, although I would imagine it's likely each set is slightly different. Some of the bags are tied up with twine, and others are open, exposing their contents. The fabric effect on the rough hessian sacks is excellent, and the way that they bulge under load is just perfect - You can almost see every potato in them. The smaller sacks are tied up and easily man-portable, offering extra options. There are also a number of short, or folded down sacks containing a relatively small amount of veg, which allows you to create a layered effect to your stowage.

Each sack is flat bottomed, and only a few have their moulding plugs still attached. They are cast from a hard grey resin for the most part, which could almost pass muster without any painting, but some are cast in similarly hard cream resin. Detail is stunning, and they will look great once painted, especially as there are decals to go with the bags a small sheet (large postage stamp) is included with various brand marks to apply to your finished bags. This is a really useful touch, as it gives them so much more realism once done.

Cardboard Boxes (35184)

The boxes set is similarly realistic, and contains 12 boxes of all shapes and sizes for use with your models, as well as a small decals sheet printed on white paper. The folding and creasing of the cardboard finish, and the collapsed look to some of the boxes are hyper-realistic, and portrays the real thing brilliantly. Some of the boxes are tied with twine, and a few have their lids interleaved to close them over without tape or twine. A shallow open box contains vegetables that look like large carrots to this poorly practiced vegetable identifier, and has the lid flaps folded back for easy access.

The largest box is the show stealer because it has creases where the box has been bent, which I can't begin to imagine how they achieved. Each box has a flat base, so their orientation is set unless you can press them up against something else, but that's not a problem and a few have moulding blocks still attached so that all six sides will be perfect.

Conclusion

These are great additions to any 1:35 model or diorama, and their devotion to realism has to be seen to be believed. Add in the decals, and you have the ingredients for some fabulous accessories to enhance your models.

Highly recommended.
