trickyrich
ok on shift and got very bored....... using that depository of wonderful and absolutely amazingly accurate information.......…Wiki I have managed to produce list of every (sort of) aircraft used by the US Navy up until 1962 ……..though if I can ever work out how to attach a document (if possible) will do so as it's 16 pages long! Why….havenoideawhattobuildanddon’twanttobuildthesameaseveryoneelse……. Am truly amazed at the variety of aircraft the navy used, just wonder if they are models available to match. For the Spitfire die hards……… 17 Spitfire Mk. V’s were used by VCS-7 but never officially assigned, the attached link has some cool info one them, http://spitfiresite.com/2010/04/spitfires-of-the-us-navy.html , unfortunately they kept their original RAF colour schemes. choices, choices,.....flying boat pre 40's, airship, foreign built aircraft......ooo so hard, way to hard if I include modern aircraft! Will have to go to that other site of amazing things to see whats available.......eBay.

Rickpadwick1801
I might have to get involved in this.....as long as I can get a model of the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) that doesn't look like the ship is still in the 1960s as the Revell one is....and doesn't cost the earth to buy.... trickyrich
ok I have a curly one for this GB......how far back can we go in US Naval history? Currently have my eye on a Fly 1/48 Macchi M5 Flying Boat, yes I know it's Italian........an very pretty one at that. But.........the US Navy flew a squadron of them with the Italians in the WWI, and by chance the first Medal of Honor (I know US spelling) to be awarded to a Navy pillot was awarded to one flying one of these lovely machines. "The first Medal of Honor to an American naval pilot was assigned to this unit, on its first operational mission. On 21 August 1918 Macchi M 8 serial 19008 with pilot Walther White and observer Albert P. Taliaferro with an escort of four M.5s went on a leaflet dropping mission to Pola, and was faced by four Phönix land fighters. Ensign George Ludlow, flying M.5 13015, attacked together with ensign Austin Parker, pilot Charles H. Hammann and ensign Dudley Voorhees. Ludlow put an enemy out of action, then he was shot down by Fregattenleutnant Stephan Wolleman and alighted at sea. Hammann alighted near him, sabotaged the wreck of the Macchi, then took his friend on board hanging to the engine struts, strafed again the wreck of the Macchi nicknamend "Mutt 1197" and returned to base. The unbalanced Macchi crashed during the landing, but the two valiant airmen survived, and Hamman was awarded the Medal of Honor. Unfortunately, he lost his life in an accident with another Macchi on 24 June 1919." ref: http://www.worldwar1.com/dbc/macchi5.htm It's not modern and it's not blue, so would certainly brighten up the place, is mentioned that the US Navy M5's were some of the most colourful aircraft of the war. If not ok will add it to the Seaplane GB, it's just toooo lovely not to build!
robw_uk
@trickyrich - ok you have me, Wiki says USN so you can do it... I put no date range on and no stipulation on modern. blue - if anyone wants to build a USN Ironclad from the Civil War (I would debate that was USN but it would've been a Navy of the US of some sort) then they could do... Peter Lloyd
I'd love to see that Macchi Richard... while I'm signing up for everything, I will add my name to this, too. Would a Bearcat on French Indochina War colours do the job? No? I understand. Something boring like a Dauntless or Avenger is most likely, but I might get all excited and ambitious... a Privateer? I have a Coronado in the stash....
heloman1
Thanks Rob, I found a box in th estash wil fouu partly assembles A-4's in, I've never finished one, well maybe a very ancient Airfix kit. So this is an ideal oportunity. Colin Mrs Cosgrove my school English teacher would have torn her hair out yet again, apoploguies for my mistake spelling. It should have read, ..the stash with four partly assembled A-4's.... but you all worked that out or never noticed! Colin

Speaking of accuracy, have found out there are a few issues with it, mainly the fuselage/hull, nothing major on a seaplane! May have to turn a blind eye, or re-build the fuselage/hull! I'd love to see that Macchi Richard... while I'm signing up for everything, I will add my name to this, too. Would a Bearcat on French Indochina War colours do the job? No? I understand. theplasticsurgeon
Just checked my stash - over 20 possibilities. Most likely a Hasegawa S3 Viking costing me a whole pound back in 1999. Save the Bearcat for the "Splendid Cats GB".....opps another GB!!! sounds like me.. plus with AFV I end up in "campaigns" over on armorama... but as GB lead I better build something for this - probably the Cutlass PR (just cos it looks damn odd - oh and a simple NMF finish - might try some alcad being as I have sort of mastered acrylic))....
