Parabat Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Finally got the F-16N done, so here we go onto the next GB! The Italeri 1/48 Mirage F.1CT/CR kit, ScaleWorx F1AZ resin conversion set and some Verlinden Resin Mk.82's Sprues Contents of the ScaleWorx F1AZ conversion which includes forward fuselage with correct nose, IFR, exhaust, PE IP, new ventral strakes with chaff/flare pods, ECM antennae, MB Mk4 seat and new nose wheel gear door. Also included are two vac-formed canopies and MAV decal sheet for a late, 'Low Vis' scheme F1AZ. This what I hope to achieve; (picture from Aviaworld)
Bertie McBoatface Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Mean machine! A lovely and deadly looking machine!
Parabat Posted June 29, 2012 Author Posted June 29, 2012 It is both deadly and attractive, really got a 'love' for this aircraft after reading Dick Lord's Vlamgat.
Vlamgat9 Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 It is both deadly and attractive, really got a 'love' for this aircraft after reading Dick Lord's Vlamgat. Did someone call me? ;-)
Parabat Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 Found some more bits I'd bought for this F1AZ; Pavla intakes and Resin Art wheels with the correct hubs. Got some work done on this beauty. Cut off the nose and forward fuselage, quite simple and the resin replacemnt (pretty weighty!) fits like a glove. The exhaust requires a bit of trimming of the kit but is otherwise drop-in perfection.
heloman1 Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Lookin' good, I'll follow this build with interest. Colin on the Africa Station
Metallicus Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 looking great buddy!! Will be watching with interest. Cheers Brenden
smuts Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Very nice so far,& a real mean lookin bird too... Andy.
Gajman Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Looking good I look forward to seeing the finished thing. Gary
Parabat Posted July 8, 2012 Author Posted July 8, 2012 Apparently the Pavla intakes aren't quite right for the SAAF Mirage F.1's, but it's too late now! Wings on and cockpit sprayed black.
Parabat Posted July 9, 2012 Author Posted July 9, 2012 Just found out that the Pavla intake has the wrong shaped shock cone for the SAAF F.1 (the kit supplied intakes and cones are correct shape for the SAAF F.1, with the tip having the panel line where the tip 'opens' to allow access to the panel behind on the fuselage) Picture: J van Zyl, from the IPMS South Africa website. Luckily they pinged clean off with a bit of pressure in the right place.
Parabat Posted July 14, 2012 Author Posted July 14, 2012 Some more progress here too today. Cockpit painted and weathered Instrument panel
Bertie McBoatface Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 The nose looks very neat and tidy. I haven't dropped in for a while and I'm surprised how far you've got.
Parabat Posted July 18, 2012 Author Posted July 18, 2012 Cheers Don, it's a bit of a mess at the moment TBH, but it'll pan out ok.
Avgas Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 I have no doubt she'll turn out looking suitably brilliant mate.
