Thanks guys, this is a pretty good kit for an olden! Only areas to watch are the lower wing join to fuselage, at the rear, and upper wings to fuselage sides, otherwise of was plain sailing!

Things have slowed now as I need a new printer cartridge to print the masks out for Camo

Looks a really nice upgrade to the Monogram. Mine was one of my first builds on returning to modelling and its not my greatest work but some of the original kit details are really quite chunky and ill-fitting. I think I may have to invest in one of these

Update time,

After seeing Andy's Spad in all it's Camo glory it inspired me to stop stalling and paint mine!

Without the luxury of scale plans to work from I had to upscale the instructions, this led to some issues with missing bits, but these were easily touched up.

One thing I noticed (fortunately in time) is that the greens in the Camo scheme are transposed in the Encore instructions, worth noting if you plan to build this kit!

As I (think) mentioned earlier I tried the salt weathering technique to give the the chipped effect on the this aircraft as it neared it's last flight. I think it worked quite well, despite having to apply more aluminium and salt prior to each Camo colour!!

As usual I got far too carried away and forgot to paint all the 'bits' so that's a job for tonight, it'll also give the main paint job time to fully cure before gloss coat.

More soon

 Sweet work, Phil! I think it's quite an attractive scheme actually and you seem to have nailed that in both layout and colour! Can be trricky but with a bit of logic is quite easy to pull off! I am the same with not painting bits - fortunately the only bit I missed was the tail-mounted pitot.

The result is so obvious sometimes, when you see a well weathered paintjob by someone and the canopy is a different shade because they didn't paint that at the same time as their beatifully painted airframe!

Thanks Andy, the canopy is the bit that bothers me slightly, I should have tacked it in place and painted it! Fortunately the majority of it is the dark green colour!

I have to say the encore instructions leave a lot to be desired I had to spend a fair while studying pics to work out where the leading edge Camo demarkation should be, think I got it right....

Another quick update, I've just about finished the base now

All over sprayed with Tamiya Dark Iron (practically the whole jar!) dry brushed with various metailcs, browns and grey, just to break up base colour. Coats of gloss, then oils used for washes and to add stains. Finally a Matt coat and here it is!

I may add some Mig pigments as a lot of the pics I've seen show sand between the sheets and through the holes!

Very nice, may well get one of these myself, nice work on the camo & weathering too.

ARRRGH! Varnish disaster!

2 coats of Aqua Gloss went on ok, but then started to cloud and have dried to what you see!

I can only assume I didn't wash the salt residue off properly and it's reacted with the gloss.

It wasn't too bad earlier and thought I could hide it with weathering but no chance!

I guess I can try and strip it back and repaint but not sure I can face that camo again!

Not a good day

Oh crap! Bad luck mate. If it's any consolation, your base looks very good. PSP is very difficult to paint right, I think. It would be a shame to waste it.

Thanks! I'm less p!ssed off today! I think I'll either strip it back and try again, or possibly see if I can get the Revell/Monogram kit cheap and save all the AM bits, I'm sure I could get the pit out ok, all the other bits are ok to go!

Probably not for this GB though, think I'll box it up and concentrate on the Mig for now.
