Bertie McBoatface Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Will be building the 1/72 Thunderchief F105G Wild Weasel. Believe I had permission form the GB hosts for that (if not thats ok).. Having read about Thud ops in Vietnam, I'd describe this as CAS to the bombers. Getting in just front of the friendlies and zapping the bad guys when they show their heads (radars). I love the lines of the 105, brute of an aeroplane, and will follow your build with much interest. (I do think you should have to do it in 1:48 though, the one true scale. )
robw_uk Posted June 30, 2012 Author Posted June 30, 2012 Thanks Don. It would be huge in 48th. Photos of kit taken, will post later. May also start with the cockpit painting this afternoon. Fully oob with no scratch......
robw_uk Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 box piccies... the scheme I will do is you do get the ability to leave the gun bay door open - but a half-gun isnt 100% accurate ;-) not decided on this yet.
robw_uk Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 ok - progress, wings on, cockpit etc in... still not decided on the gun bay and need to work out how much nose weight to add. Think this one I am gonna do clean - no fading or weathering, just as I like it as a model rather than a depiction of reality....
Bertie McBoatface Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Wings on before jointing the fuselage? Unusual but I can see the advantages. Good thinking.
robw_uk Posted July 4, 2012 Author Posted July 4, 2012 Wings on before jointing the fuselage? Unusual but I can see the advantages. Good thinking. no - fuselage is joined - no nose on yet (gap at the front will go when the nose is on..... or did i miss something?
smuts Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Hi, good to see the Thud taking shape even 72nd she's big!.. Andy.
Bertie McBoatface Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 no - fuselage is joined - no nose on yet (gap at the front will go when the nose is on.....or did i miss something? I thought you were still considering doing something with the gun bay. It seemed logical that you wouldn't close the fuselage until that decision was made.

Don - no the gun bay ois molded into the fuselage - you can either leave it open or close it... no scratchbuilding on this one... still not sure what to do (air refueling hatch is shut anyway...)
robw_uk Posted July 5, 2012 Author Posted July 5, 2012 nose on, tail done, pay load decided... next is painting (well once the small gaps round the nose where I knocked it off just as it was setting need filling)... piccies later of her built, then hope tomorrow/weekend to get a bit of airbrush time.....
Parabat Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Going quickly! A few more days and I'd have missed this one!
