dazdot Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Looking to build this one out of the box, Had some good results with academy kits so far so i'm looking forward to this one a lot. DArren
dazdot Posted June 29, 2012 Author Posted June 29, 2012 right ready for the kick off tomorrow here's the kit and photo's of a couple of examples it will be out of the box along with some scratchbuilt bits loaded out with HVAR's and drop tanks Here's hoping it goes well
AndyC Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 I hope so too - I love the Corsair and have a few of my own. I wanted to do a Marine AU-1 from Korea for this GB but finding them at the right price is difficult
Bertie McBoatface Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Excellent photos. I believe the last one is the aircraft in one of the Tamiya boxings. That academy kit looks good to me. I look forward to seeing how you get on with it.
dazdot Posted June 30, 2012 Author Posted June 30, 2012 the only thing this kit doesn,t have is wing fold but then I didn't want to do a folded one anyway +£11.00 at emodels compared to £20.00 for the tamiya kit sounds like a bargain to me anyway Darren
dazdot Posted July 1, 2012 Author Posted July 1, 2012 made a start Saturday While SO was at work I'm one of these people who usually rush through the bits and pieces of a model after the main bits are done and B******* it up so you won't find a cockpit for a while but i Have built and painted the U/C legs as below For some reason I've had no problem brush painting Tamiya Acrylics but they seem to be playing up lately Then on with the engine, whilst molded nicely It is somewhat lacking in detail so I have made my own Ignition ring then it was on to wiring, there were a couple of sink marks in the tops of the cylinder heads this made drilling and plumbing a breeze from this I then plumbed the magnetos and painted the wiring brown And finally I added and trimmed the wiring with the ignition ring and finished with a couple of stencils for placards from the spares box on to the tailwheel assembly next Darren
Bertie McBoatface Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I'm following your lead and building mine backwards too. It seems to be working out well, doing the tedious bits while enthusiasm is at it's highest point. Cheers for the idea.
dazdot Posted July 14, 2012 Author Posted July 14, 2012 right made a lot of progress on this but havent been able to post so here goes Built the tail wheel this needed pinning as there was no positive locations I haven't painted the black and white stripes as yet More over I then stateed on the rockets and other bits then moving on I started on the cockpit whist waiting fo other bits to dry I only used the decal on the instrument panel
dazdot Posted July 14, 2012 Author Posted July 14, 2012 I have put the fuselage together and have found that the combing behind the cockpit is an absolute terrible fit I have now fitted seat belts and the wings and tailplane is on More to come later
