Greased Lightning Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 My hat comes off to you Dave for building this monster, I saw one at the Avon show the other weekend and thought "If I buy that my missus will kill me!" )
DaveJL Posted August 23, 2012 Author Posted August 23, 2012 I'm well glad to see that worked! Usually it's me stealing ideas from here. It's still a frelling monster of a kit but it looks cracking. Likewise, I thought I had thought of everything for the FOD covers Dave

DaveJL Posted August 23, 2012 Author Posted August 23, 2012 F..K me that's large, well done Dave, can't wait to see it finished! What wash did you use? Thanks mate. It is rather big! I used Flory Models 'dark' weathering wash. Great stuff. Dave
DaveJL Posted August 24, 2012 Author Posted August 24, 2012 Nearly done! Everything has sort of come together over the past day or so. Today was just about tidying up, adding the horizontal stabiliser, removing the canopy masking and seeing if the kits substantial weight would be held by the landing gear! DaveJL Posted August 26, 2012 Author Posted August 26, 2012 (edited) She's finally done! Spend a few hours today just finishing off. Final product is here A great project, one which i really enjoyed. However, the kit has it's problems and I have some tips for anyone thinking of having a go at one: 1. Be prepared for a lot of filling and sanding, check and test! 2. Have plenty of filler (i used nearly a full tube) 3. Take your time with the join of each fuselage section. It's an awful fit. 4. Extend the engine nacelles by 7mm if using the Cutting Edge exhausts 5. When attaching the main landing gear bay and bomb bays, add plenty of weight on top of them, otherwise they won't adhere. 6. If adding the DAS blister, make sure it's straight! 7. Stock up on paint 8. Leave all antennae off until the end. I didn't and they broke off countless times. 9. Ensure you add the SAC landing gear. The model is very heavy and I don't think the kit parts would hold. 10. Have fun! The kit certainly was a challenge, but enjoyable, though I won't be doing another! Hope i've done this wonderful aircraft justice. Dave Edited August 26, 2012 by DaveJL
