Nice work Dave! Does the Wolfpack nose have the camera covers included? For the Black Box one, you had to make your own-I scrounged some TARPS parts for mine! Just one thing-the centreline pylon should have an angled leading edge on later Hornets. Hasegawa only changed this in the last couple of years. I can get some photos up later to show you what I mean. How are you finding your first Legacy Hornet? I remember my first one and the flaps caused a little frustration too!

Nice work!

Thanks Joel. Yes, the clear lenses are included with the set. I was aware of the pylon issue and Wolfpack did provide a replacement but unfortunately it was warped so I binned it. Will have to make do with the older style one.

The kit has been grand so far, just a few minor things here and there, namely the flaps and the join of the LERX, but other than it it's great!

Cheers

More to report. Slats went on (after i managed to make a crack in both of them  ) and the final touch was to add the resin GPS dome on the spine:

That's her off for a bath and a priming this evening. All being well i'll get the wheel bays sprayed in the morning and hopefully the greys on in the afternoon.

More to follow.

Lumps and bumps evertwhere. It all means little to me as it's not my period at all, but I can certainly see that you are putting the work in. I'm looking forward to the painting.

Thanks Don. Always plenty of lumps and bumps on modern jets!

Plenty of progress to report. Was up at the crack of dawn this morning and sprayed the wheel wells. After they dried, i moved onto the main painting. Two tone grey, piece of cake! The colours are Model-Master light ghost grey with a lightened dark ghost grey on the top sides (was too dark out of the jar, so i lightened it with a few drops of white)

Also painted the FOD covers black, the cockpit, engines and shrouds along with the nav lights which were added after the main painting was done:

Just need to paint the camera bays black and that's the airframe ready for glossing and decals. I also painted all the weapons:

IMG_2540.jpg

Added some weathering to the GBU's to make them look more realistic. Seats were also painted:

Next up is a few little details, glossing then decals.

More to follow.

Quick question...does anyone know, or would hazard a guess, at what colour the camera bays would be? There's a bit of detail in the forward bay but none in the rear bay. I'm thinking black with clear blue lenses, but i'm not sure and I don't have any good close ups of the area.

EDIT: just found this picture which clears things up.

Cheers

Decals are on, and what a job it was!! Over 100 individual stripes plus the rest of the stencils etc. Took me about 5 hours, with an intermission, to get them all on.

No problems with the decals themselves, but finding where each one went was the most time consuming bit. The 'VMFA(AW)-224' lettering on the spine is barely visible. I thought initially this was due to the paint, but after looking at some reference material of Hornets in Iraq, this area was very low viz, though perhaps not as much as on the kit. Will have to live with it.

The stabilisers:

After letting them air for a while, i sealed them down with some micro-set then covered the whole airframe in another coat of gloss. Next stage is to add a wash followed by a coat of flat varnish. Will also hopefully get the landing gear attached tomorrow.

More to follow.

It looks great Dave-on Academy's 1/32 Delta, you have to paint the stripes :analintruder: Think I might leave that one for the Hornet STGB.... I had the same problem with the grey decals when I did mine a few years back. Shame really because it did look the biz. Done a really good job here Dave, soon be time for the monster!!!

Thanks Joel. I definitely would not like to paint the lot on!! Decals were bad enough!!

Hoping to make a start on the B-1 either on Sunday or early next week.

More to show. Spent a few hours this morning on it then another 2 late afternoon. First job was to tidy up some decaled areas. One problem with the decals was that they were all fitted for a 'closed up' jet- canopy down, flaps and slats retracted. For the latter, i simply trimmed and removed the areas that covered the extended parts, to create a small grey patch which wouldn't have been covered by the stripes. After that was done, I applied the Flory Models wash:

IMG_2551.jpg

After about an hours drying, i removed the excess with kitchen roll and cotton buds:

IMG_2553.jpg

The pylons, fuel tank and LITENING pod got the same treatment.

IMG_2554.jpg

IMG_2555.jpg

After all that was done, i coated the model in a layer of flat varnish and left it to dry as I went about my daily business :innocent: When I returned, i added the arrestor hook, ejection seats, antennae, landing gear, gear doors and the pylons:

Wheels have also been attached. I will let everything cure overnight and get a few hours done tomorrow. Should hopefully get it done either tomorrow or Monday.

More to follow.

Thanks mate. Always liked Tiger schemes and the fact that this was used in combat was a bonus!

Awesome Job!

You are putting us to shame with this quick build......i've only got 2 ejection seats painted so far

A few hours a day and it's literally flown together! Back to work next week so the race will be on to see if I get the B-1B finished before the GB deadline!

Calling this one done. Enjoyed the build and learnt some new things, being my first 'Legacy Hornet' build.

The decals were the most challenging part, but it's a scheme i've been wanting to do for a while so i'm pretty happy with it!

Thanks to all who followed and commented. The finished article is here

Time to move onto the beast that is the B-1B!!
