LOL - 'tis actually the ZM kit :)

Has taken a while to get this far though...

Iain

EDIT - BTW - your Hawk package should be inbound - apologies for delay! :)

Excellent - I hope you have enough oil/exhaust colour, those R-3350's chucked out a lot of crap and leaked oil like hell :speak_cool:

Looking good! I'm at the decalling stage... Watch out for the 24 identical markers for the weapons pylons - and you might find that the red/white and stencil combination pieces go on a lot easier if you separate them... Giving 36 decals in total. Top tip... Don't try doing them all at once, that way madness lies!

Still absolutely petrified about the filthing-up process. Having spent 7 months on the beast, I don't want to ruin it now, but I definitely don't want a pristine example, either. Gulp!

OK - here goes - Mike may have new Forum software in place - well - I've just 'rebuilt' my PC - binning Windoze and installing Ubuntu - with lots of new toys - so all a bit of a test!

Back onto models again and some progress at last on the 'Raider - the fun part about to begin (that Skyraider weathering! :))

Anyhoo - this is where we're at - all comments/crits appreciated! :)

Nice work Iain. I like it a lot.

I've never touched or even seen a Z-M model in the past other than on forums. How do you rate it next to other manufacturers? I have been pondering a Z-M purchase for a while but have been put off by reported fit issues and over engineering comments

You'll be seeing mine in a day or two... I am just finishing an unfeasible quantity of ordnance! Marks out of ten? I think I would give it about 8. Some things are staggering (the engine, but bl**dy hell the exhausts are complex!), other things are less good, for example the cockpit is a little crude.

The engineering is peculiar. The tail is separate from the main body, and it is a bit tricky to get a good join. Similarly the back of the fuselage is a separate section, and again, a bit tricky to get a smooth finish. Perfectly possiblle with a bit of elbow grease and superglue, though!

Quite expensive by the time you factor in shipping fees and duty (I have a brother in Philadelphia whom I used to order from Volks USA, but I still got stung by UK customs), more so if you add in the ordnance set. I also splashed out on the photo etch upgrades, but in honesty I don't think I will again - I don't think the extra detail is worth it when push comes to shove. Things like the engine wiring harness were a pig, and almost invisible when the plane is buttoned up. In fact, as I sit here now it's hard to think what I used, in the end. Gave up on the cooling gills and cowlings,, for example.

Anyway, watch this space, it'll be in RFI soon...

Or not.

Mike

Oh, almost forgot. Great job, Ian!

Thanks guys - getting there - will be glad when she's done - can crack on with some other stuff!

Radleigh - the exhaust staining has caused a lot of stress - weeks of pouring over photos and a couple of hours to airbrush this morning - the staining on the lower exhausts has a particular flow pattern that I wanted to capture - as well as the 'rippling' effect on the sides. Looks better 'in the plastic' as surfaces still glossy so images i posted earlier not the best.

I hope to see it maybe at SMW? I've got my dads old 48th Matchbox to revive soon, and I've been scanning photos left right and centre! Seriously good job you've done :)
