hacker
When they went from the Gr3 to the Gr5/7/9 l know (obviously) they changed the wings and the cockpit part of the fuselage but did they change much aft of the cockpit on the fuselage or is it still the same? Got a possible kit bash project l am contemplating for down the road. Line drawings are telling me one thing but what is actual fact?

GR1/1a/3 were completely different to the GR5/7/9 which were all new build airframes. Virtually no commonality as the GR5 used new materials and systems. Mark. hacker
ok l was hoping that they were the same in general shape and size.
AnonymousAA72
ok l was hoping that they were the same in general shape and size. The general shape and size would be similar - I know that Phil Cater (ex- HARSIg leader) converted a 1/24th scale Harrier GR1 into a GR5 (or 7 I can't remember - it was a few years ago!) and then subsequently on to a T10. The thing to remember is that the fuselage of both types housed a similar sized and shaped engine (broadly speaking!) Nozzles etc., were in the same places. Of course you would need new wings, nozzles, pylons, new cockpit section fin/rudder etc...... I think Phil used the existing wings and covered them with plastic card to arrive at the larger wing plan..... Are you planning something similar? hacker
l was thinking about getting the Tigger models 1/32 Sea Harrier conversion for the Revell kit but the kit looks rough and thought l could combine a trumpeter kit with the revell wings and the Sea Harrier conversion but unsure if l want to do FRS 1 or the SHAR. Just something l was thinking about but was really unsure if it would be feasible
thx6667
but unsure if l want to do FRS 1 or the SHAR The FRS1 (and FA2) is the SHAR. As Bill says, nothing to stop you using the 1/24 Airfix kits as a basic keel for a Harrier II, but it would require a lot of Milliput, plastic card and hard work. But there's almost no point is trying to downgrade a Trumpeter 1/32 Harrier II to a Sea Harrier - that would be like trying to convert a Seafire 47 into a Spitfire MK.1. The work required would almost be in excess of actually scratch building an FRS1 nose and canopy. The Tigger set does at least give you a head start in that regard. hacker
l was just looking for a alternative to the rear portion of the revell kit. I have used worst just at the moment just scheming about it in my brain
AnonymousAA72
l was just looking for a alternative to the rear portion of the revell kit. I have used worst just at the moment just scheming about it in my brain The Revell kit was based, broadly, on the pre-production Harrier, the P1127(UK). I started to convert one to a SHAR1 many years ago using plastic card for the nose framework and had re-profiled the forward nozzle fairings. There was a lot more work to do - then John issued his conversion set! I have still to finish it! Its not a bad kit - certainly a good starting point, but I shudder at the thought of using a Trumpeter kit as a starting point to build a Sea Harrier on cost alone, BUT it could be done.....
