Hi Grant

It's always gratifying to know that others are as susceptible to failing as oneself! At least, my F-16 was cheaper than your SE5! :banghead:

I've now completed the masking and painting of the silver and black and painted the blue areas. Pictures to follow tomorrow.

Hi All

A quick update to show the hand-painted demarcation stripes to replace my wine-induced cock-up! There's a little touching-up to do, but I am relatively happy with my efforts.

I have also applied the blue which will be separated from the existing stripes by a darker grey and yes, more stripes! The impressive tail decal covers most of the tail, with a little blue paint visible at the bottom and grey paint visible at the top.

I hope to do some more decalling today.

Hi All

Got most of the large decals on now. I have never used Syhart decals before, and I haven't had any major dramas. The tail decals are huge and a bit tricky, and I still I need to do a little touching up and some trimming on them. I need to touch up some of the paintwork and attach the fiddly bits and snapped off wicks. There are not many decals left, but I must confess that I am not really enjoying this kit and I might take a break from it today and do something completely different - gardening!

Really nice, some.complex decalling that's turned out really well.

Thanks for the comments, chaps. I've done a bit in the garden and my wife has got a hair appointment, so I have decided to put some more time into it! The canopy has been dipped in Klear and the wheels are on. I will try to do the last of the decals now.

That's looking very good. Nice recovery.

cheers

Grant

Thanks, Grant. I am quite happy with the recovery and I wondered if I would be able to pull it off with masking, as there is a pronounced curve to the stripes on the fuselage sides.

I have nearly finished her now. Pictures to follow tomorrow.

Hi All

After some therapeutic gardening yesterday, I summoned the motivation to continue with this little beauty! Most of the decals are now securely located, so all I really need to do now is paint the canopy and attach it, attach the jet pipe, fix all the fiddly bits in place and replace the broken wicks on the flying surfaces. Before all that though, I need to do a little touching up of paintwork and some decal trimmimg (primarily on the tail).

Thanks for the comments.

Being back at work this week has interfered with my modelling. I would have hoped to have finished this bird by now, but all I have managed to achieve this week is to paint the canopy! I hope to finally finish her this weekend.

Hi All

Just a quick update on my F-16 - I have broken it! I am having new carpets laid today, which meant that I have relocated lots of bits and pieces into the study (AKA man cave!) During this process, I managed to drop the empty F-16 box onto the almost complete model, resulting in a snapped nose gear, the nose gear door breaking off, the canopy becoming unattached and one of the main wheels snapping off and disappearing! :shithappens:

This model and I seem to have a love/hate relationship! Once the carpet fitters have left, and the house has returned to some semblance of normality, I hope to find the wheel, effect the repairs and finally finish the little darling!

Oh man! :wicked: Sorry to hear that - however, been there, bought the T-shirt on that one before. Dust yourself down mate and get the CA out - all sounds fixable. That wheel must be somewhere!

Thanks, Andy. You were right, the repairs have been effected with CA, and I even found the errant wheel. In fact, I am now calling her finished, but can't take pictures as the carpet fitter is still here! Hopefully will take the RFI shots tomorrow before starting the decorating. :drink:

Thanks for all your support, chaps. I am calling this one finished. It is certainly no show-stopper (unlike the real thing!), but I am quite happy with the end result, despite my various stupid mistakes.

She's brush-painted Humbrol 25, 125 and 126 and then Kleared, I have only weathered the wheels, undercarriage and undercarriage doors (with thinned Tamiya Smoke.)

I had never used Syhart declas before, and I must say that they were superbly designed, with all the complex shapes fitting together perfectly.

The Revell kit fits together nicely and looks the part to my eye, but I was concerned at the amount of flash present on and in some of the parts.

I struggled a little with the fit of the canopy (but then I always seem to!)

Firstly, a few pictures of my inspiration that I took at Duxford in May:

And now a couple of the model. I will place the rest in the Gallery.

A nice result - to be savoured all the more after all the tribulations! :D

A complex colour scheme that has turned out really well. Good job on that one.

Now to photoshop the aircraft OUT and the model IN! :analintruder:

cheers
