As quoted elsewhere it is from the Gulf War of 1991. They were originally painted in the normal desert pink, but as they were flying mostly at night with the SAS the aircraft showed up rather alot in the sky, so the ground crew went down the local B&Q and bought some black paint plus 4" paint brushes.
