colihamp
Thanks for all the kind words. For my second build I've been having a go at Trumpeter's 1:350 Hood (apologies for the lack of originality) and I've pretty much completed her, except for having the courage to tackle some PE (I think she needs some railings; looks strange without them) and rigging, but I figure I'll get to that when I'm feeling brave. Essentially I've finished her as far as I can for now, so I took a couple of snaps on my phone (hence quality) of my two ships next to each other. I've also added some Harriers and a bit more of a 'used' deck. Anyway, hope you like my little fantasy fleet... P.S. If I can find my normal point and shoot camera I'll have a go at uploading some better stand alone shots of Hood and post in a separate thread. Cheers, Colin. Rickpadwick1801
Nice job on this one.....I am currently working on this model....I can't believe you did that in two weeks..... Can i just ask how you did the black boot tooping on the hull and how thick you did the black strip i.e. 10 mm or more ? Did you use a masking tape to do it ? Keep up the good work. Basosz
You got to slow down or at this rate your house will be pretty well stuffed to the rafters round about next year. This is amazing.
garryrussell
Everyone has to start somewhere and that is an excellent start OK, so you see things that could be done better and other things that you feEl were not done the best way, but, even the most experienced model maker casting an eye over his latest masterpiece would say that it is and ongoing learning curve and to accomplish that in a couple of weeks is a tremendous effort. One thing that many, including me, find is getting the sea to look wet and fluid. certainly does that here I think we will be seeing a lot more of you...I sure hope so Edited October 16, 2012 by garryrussell

Yeah that's it, I used Tamiya masking tape which worked well. Re the position of the line, I think I just stared back and forth between the painting chart and the model for a couple of minutes and took a bit of a punt. I've since purchased the WEM PE for the kit and have been gradually adding bits and pieces to her (mainly railings, walkways and flight deck netting for now). If I ever finish I'll re-post some updated images.

Thanks, I have actually purchased the Tamiya tape (it arrived today) in 10 mm thickness which to me looks right to pictures I have seen of other Illustrious models people have completed. I will be working this weekend, so will post a thread of the progress I make.
Mark
OK, let's look at the evidence. You started modelling two weeks ago? This is your first model? Not just any model, but a relatively complex one at that. The model itself is beautifully built and very neatly painted. However, there is evidence of advanced techniques, such as weathering. The representation of the water is superb. My verdict is that you are one very skilled modeller at this stage! There's no hope for the rest of us, anyone want to buy a compressor?! Seriously though, truly fabulous work!
colihamp
Again, really kind words guys, but I can take very little credit for the model as pretty much everything I did was following tips and and getting help and advice from fellow Britmodeller posters (seascape was following Phil Reeders' method). At the moment I'm struggling with my first experience with PE. I bought the WEM etch (which is superb and really improves the finish, but tricky when trying to add it to an almost complete model). Since completing Lusty I have had a go at the Trumpy Hood (shown in these pics) and also threw together a Hasegawa Harrier over the summer (found that much harder than the ships), here are a couple of shots (http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=234926460). Cheers, Colin.
