christof
That engine is a masterpiece. And the interior is brilliant. I like this a lot. Christof.
Lynx7
Thanks for all your kind words! Ok, more progress. Tail boom and drive shafts done and built a tiny little intermediate gearbox (to change direction of drive). Overall view of how I constructed the support area for the engine bay. And the alloy engine bay. Drive shafts made from 2mm brass tube with a 1mm plastic rod insert all the way along. Drive shaft supports made using spare bits of PE drill with a 1mm hole. IGB (intermediate gearbox) and the start of the support rods for the tail pylon. IGB was made using 2.5mm plastic tube cut to give a 47 degree angle then reglued. Then dress with 2mm brass at input and output ends and .5mm and .3mm square rod. All just dry fitted for now. Need to add hydraulic pipes on the right hand side plus a few bits of wiring as well as the oil level sight glass on the side of the IGB. Will start work on the drive shaft covers tomorrow (will use thin brass sheet rolled around an appropriate diameter tube then cut to size). Oh and the 8 blade supplementary cooling fan just in front of the IGB. Blades work out at about 0.5mm so that'll be a bit of a challenge...... This is the one I made for my Accurate armour 1/35 Lynx (on hold for now because compared to the Airfix Lynx, the AA one really is a dog of the highest order!!) Just waiting for some 2mm PE flanges to arrive to add to each end of each drive shaft to act as connection points. I have some tiny 0.6mm bolts which naturally I'll add to attach them

merlin9807
Another Lynx Tony Awesome as always. I like how your bringing over what you learnt on the AA lynx to this one. I also see your OCD is in full effect. Merl

Lynx7
Thanks again all. Bit more time on my hands for the next 6 months as my girlfriend has just gone to Afghanistan. She wants me to send her models out so she can complete some over there. Tune in for some 'Extreme Modelling from the front line'! Anyway, nose avionics bays complete; Still need to add a bit more of a wiring loom to both sides and the washer bottle to the port side. Because I'm doing mine as a TOW equipped aircraft, I have a few more LRUs in the nose (TI compressor and various TOW control related boxes) Standard aircraft;

Parabat
Hell man, do you have some 'Borrowers' in the house either building this or that are going to fly this?! Outstanding.
heloman1
Hi Tony, There is some very tasty work going on there, i particularly like the engine and the tail rotor driveshaft. with the crispness of the pics, I thought you were working on a 32nd scale kit. Looking forward to the next installment. Colin on the Africa Station
Lynx7
Ok, a bit of progress over the past couple of days. I came across a self inflicted issue. Because I wanted the nose bay avionics doors open, this would have meant finding a way of attaching them quite early on in the build. The nose doors arent just a case of sticking them on because they have quite a deep hinge in real life allowing the wrapped shape of the doors to open. I had to replicate these hinges to make it accurate. If I'd attached them at this stage, it would have meant the masking and spraying process would have been a mare. Light bulb moment was making it exactly like the real thing and constructing a fully working hinge . I drilled a .3mm hole in a square of .7mm styrene and placed a .3mm brass rod in the hole. I made 2 of these per side and fixed them to the top of the nose (prior to attaching the top section of the nose). I fabricated the hinges on each door and luckily got the correct radius straight off. Drilled holes in each of the hinges then carefully played around with sliding them on to the little square pinned blocks. This now means that i can leave the doors off, mask up the open nose bays. I can slide the doors on at the final stage of construction (and drop a tiny spot of glue to fix). This is why I love scratch building stuff. Problem solving You can just see the two block and pin hinges at the top of the nose bay (brass rods facing aft). With door attached. They just slide on and off for now. Doors thinned out and hinge brackets attached The next issue was to ensure that the engine bay space allowed the engine to fit (dry fitted at moment) correctly. Luckily, it fits perfectly! I've modified the exhausts too. The kit exhausts are too thick for my liking so I've used alloy tubing. I've cleaned out the exhaust area and placed a slightly larger piece of alloy tubing inside the housing. The actual exhaust tubing I'm going to use isnt fitted yet but it will simply slide in to the housing at the final stages of construction. Tail drive shafts and secondary cooling fan now complete. Just need to mask the boom up so I can spray primer green along the top of the boom and under panel areas. Drive shaft covers to be made tomorrow out of thin bent to shape brass sheet. Getting there!! (Windscreen, skids and tail boom dry fitted for now)

Lynx7
Awesome work mate. Cant wait to see it in the flesh. Will you have it complete for Newmod? Cheers Merl I'm hoping so mate. Not actually that much more to do on it. All the fiddly detail is done. All thats left to do now is mask up windscreen and doors, do rotor assembly (I've cracked a previous one in a day from cutting off sprue to sticking on aircraft), tail rotor, TOW booms and thats about it prior to last phase of paint and finish. Oh, I am going to build footsteps and a britestar for the skids (Sorry for the late time of this reply but just got back from night flying so I hope I didnt piss too many people off in Yeovil with my continuous circuits in the Wildcat )
