richellis
BOAC Vickers VC 10 and Boeing 747 decals. 1:144 decals from Two Six. BOAC was conceived just before the start of WW2 through the merger of 2 smaller airlines to become the ‘Chosen instrument of the United kingdom government in the skies outside the British Isles’. BOAC was formed in late 1939, and in early 1940 took over aircraft operations becoming the first state-owned airline. BOAC will always be known for its stunning livery, and the long list of classic aircraft it operated. Now thanks to Two-Six we can build two airliners with the classic Gold Speedbird tail. The VC 10 is available from Welsh Models as a vac-formed plastic kit, or the Airfix VC10 can be converted either using some good old modelling skill of using the Braz resin parts! But if you are lucky enough to have an old Novo kit…… Two-Six decals have released 2 sheets to cover airliners used by BOAC; I will look at these sheets separately below! The Vickers VC 10 in the BOAC livery has got to be the best looking airliner ever. Fact. With its graceful T tail, and the 4 engines in pods at the rear of the fuselage the VC 10 is instantly recognisable. The VC 10 came in two lengths, the standard and the longer Super version. Two Six has now done a very comprehensive sheet to allow you to build one of BOACs longer Super VC 10 airliners. As expected you get a couple of sheets in the zip-lock style bag, one carrying the livery, the second with the airframe details. On this decal sheet Two Six has given you a few options on the different variations on the BOAC, and even an early British Airways post-merger hybrid livery. The inclusion of these variations is fantastic, and I love the BOAC Cunard titling. Parts of the sheet are printed in a nice metallic Gold colour and it is very nice and has just the right shine for the scale. All the cheat lines are included and the way the decals are broken down it allows you the option to paint the cheat lines or use the decals. Lots of letters are included to allow you to choose the aircraft you want to build from the Super VC 10 fleet. The second sheet is the detail sheet, this has all the extra details for the airframe. The next set of decals that are on the review desk is for the BOAC Jumbo, or the Boeing 747-136 as its properly called! The Jumbo is another aircraft that just about anybody can recognise, with its swept wings, 4 engines in pods under the wings and the distinctive humped upper deck at the front of the fuselage. You can get an early Jumbo from a number of places; Revell has a kit that’s been re-released as a US Military version that can be converted, or by Airfix. Welsh have also produced a Vac-formed kit of this jet too. Being a big aircraft the decals sheet is big too! The main livery comes over 2 screen printed sheets, as with the VC 10 sheet the colours are sharp and in register. The gold print is good and the shine again is correct for the scale. There is extra letters to allow you to choose the aircraft you want to model. The detail sheet included is again screen printed and covers all 1:144 747s. Two cracking sheets from Two-Six, with the VC10 GB running, and the re-issue of the Revell classic Jumbo a great time to release these two sheets!
