tommyinuk0
Hi all, As a challenge I have given myself the bank holiday to make this beauty? I won it on e-bay for £3.00 plus £1.50 p+p, so very much a result. I love anything with invasion stripes and this fits the bill. Also a rare glider in that most you see are Horsa's. Never seen this kit before and so am looking forward to building it, I will not be fitting out the inside as I intend it to be 'closed up'. I could not find any similar builds on here so I hope this will be something a littl different for you all to follow and with my deadline I hope a quick build also. Fingers crossed it turns out ok.... First photos of the box and parts. You may notice that the decals look a little 'old' I am hoping they survive, but if they disintergrate it will be to the spares box! Right well off to cut plastic! I shall keep you informed. Many thanks Tommy

tommyinuk0
Hi all, As promised here is an update on the build so far. Actually I am VERY pleased as I got a lot more done tonight that I expected, and the kit turned out to be a lovely build. I said I was not going to bother with the inside, however when I realised how the kit was made, the nose/cockpit of the glider moves up/down when built, so not to add inside detail or to glue the nose shut would have been criminal! so the inside was built. This turned out to be easier than I imagined, considering the amount of little seat 'legs' which needed glueing in place! The detail inside is minimal anyway, but I think what I have done will look sufficient when the nose is raised. I found a great DVD in my stash about the role of gliders in WW2 and never actually realised how many CG-4A's were used and in quite a few theatres of war. They seem to be more common that Horsas. The DVD showed a great bit where CG-4A's were unpacked from crates in the UK having been delivered from the USA and as soon as they were out the troops moved into the crates with beds etc to make billets. They were better than tents! soon airfields had shanty towns made from glider crates appearing. Can you imagine CO's inspection? Anyway the kit went together well although I do have a bad seam on the bottom of the model, but I think that is my mistake modelling and not the kit. The nose hinges well and the plastic hinge, bracket seems to be pretty sturdy. Suddenly I found the kit nearly complete and had to add the wing brackets and undercarage. The instructions are a bit confussing on the location of these parts, so I had to check online, but I think I have it correct, despite being different to the box art? A shot with my nearly finished Horsa for size comparrison! Tomorrow will be painting and final build bits. The instuctions were pretty simple with only 4 or 5 stages, however I am pleased with what has turned out so far. More to follow.... Thanks for your time. tommyinuk0
Hi all, Well I did manage to complete my challenge just, however I did not get round to taking or posting photos until tonight. The kit turned out ok, and I am sure more experienced modellers out there could make it a lot more detailed than what I have. Unfortunatley the hinge for the nose was too delicate and did not survive the build, I think it would have looked great to, being able to raise it. It suffered from being to thin and split, I tried to mend it but to no avail.... The decals turned out to be fine, with optiions for a Sicily U.S version and a post war RAF training glider, in an all over silver scheme. I will post a thread on the For inspection of the finished item, but here are the last in build pics. Undercoat applied and applying the invasion markings. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
