GEEBEE Z
Hello,I first built this kit over 30 years ago, when I saw one in my local model shop window,I were a slip of a lad then, ooops, showin me age a bit now. When I came back into modelling,I tought it would be easy to just go and buy one of these again,as I enjoyed building the original.................wrong. It took seven years of evilbaying before I got one at a very reasonable price, and,I did enjoy building it again, this time, hopefully to a much better standard. Before I built this version,I did manage to also get hold of the old Heller kit in 1/50,and that is a beast compared to this one,as well as being nealy twice as long!SWMBO loves this in in particular, and, while I think it isnt a scale model in the true sense of the word,it does look right. It is built OOB.I dont see much sail on here, and thought this might be a nice change. Hope you enjoy. Edited May 1, 2012 by GEEBEE Z
macgregor
That's a great effort, a very tidy build indeed, well done. Mac
Ray S
Hello, a fine looking ship there! Looks good, and I think we need more sail too. Environmentally friendly and all that...I wonder what tax the Government would put on wind if we all went back to using that as our motive force? Great build, kind regards, Ray
seadog
Really like it, good to see a sailing craft on here!. If I could make a suggestion? Get some brass round heads , or countesunk for your pedestals! It's a good looking model but those screws jar a tad...IMHO. F

seadog
By way of a PS, whose kit is it? And... did you wood plank the deck? I notice it's really nicely done if plastic, they even staggered the butts reasonably, unlike certain warship model companies... F Imai? Just saw one on eelbay for $180...yowf! The deck is plastic.which on these Imai kits is actually very helpful,as when doing the decks,it makes it easy to do the caulking.I also have the Imai Santa Maria in the loft.and its made in the same way, aka, very chunky. These kits weigh a ton, because they didnt skip on the plastic. Ironically,it took me seven years to get one of these,as I wasn't prepared to pay the price people were asking, anywhere up to £200,but got lucky when I got this one for £7.40. Ray S
,but got lucky when I got this one for £7.40. Wow! great bargain. I am sure I did one of the Imai kits of Cutty Sark back in the '70's and I thought the quality was excellent. Kind regards, Ray

Came up well! I've done a couple of wooden ships and I have an itch to see how 'woody' I can get a plastic kit to look. The Chebec or Revell's old (if it can be found) Golden Hind are likely suspects.. Then there's Artitec's Utrechts Statenjacht, a resin kit. Never built the Batavia.for some reason its never appealed, one ship I did build a few year ago,was the Heller Reale de France, what a bugger to paint,no woodgrain on it,but lots and lots of very small gold details.Looked fantasic when it was finished. Alan P
What a beauty. At least with sail, your radius of operation wasn't dictated by the amount of fuel you could carry! Al
