Peter Marshall
Finished yesterday, this is the Special Hobby Kit built as an early Maryland as used by Adrian Warburton. This was originally a French Martin 167, delivered in Natural Metal, the French camoflage was then painted directly over the top with no primer. It was then flown to Gibraltar by a pilot defecting to the Free French, had RAF roundels applied, and was then flown to Malta by Adrian where it had a very short but intersting career. It was heavily used and abused, patched and generally thrashed, and looked like this. The kit was a bit of a trial, the clear glazing is a poor fit and cracked, the fuselage halves had a twist which I couldn't eradicate completely. However the resin engines are lovely, and the end result does look like a Maryland. Peter Marshall
Lovely build I have one of these in the stash but for some reason keep putting it on the back burner, did you have any other problems other than those mentioned?Ian Only the typical short run kit problems - everything needs sanding and test fitting, no locating tabs and fairly 'vague' instructions. However like most short run kits it's a subject you'll never get any other way. Great paintwork, did you used salt technique? Yes, salt and hairspray - Salt in specific areas and hairspray over everything to allow for scraping in afterwards. It's detailed in the build thread.
