How do I straighten plastic strut material?

I have some very bent plastic strut material that is supplied with a 1/48 Blue Max kit. How do I go about straightening it? It also is quite flexible which might be a problem as the stuff will be wing struts!

Here's the method someone told me:-

Fill a bowl with very hot water and a bowl full of cold water. Wearing rubber gloves, hold the bent part in the hot water and straighten it. When you can no longer stand the heat, plunge into the cold water. Repeat until straight.
