Max Headroom
I have recently liberated a large cache of photos from my mother's house. Mostly family related there are some that I have taken over the years on my travels to museums and collections. I still haven't got thtough them all yet but I present below some which you may find interesting. Although they are a mixture of Instamatic, Polaroid and SLR pictures, I have transferred them via my I Phone to Photobucket and tweaked about a bit, because I don't have the scanning gizmos at the moment which is a pity because there are a load of slides that might be of interest. Whatever you do, don't use these as colour references! Even so I don't think the results are too bad. One more thing, a lot were not captioned so the time/place are a best guess. So if anyone has further or better details, please feel free to add comments. Enough verbage and in no particular order........................... Spitfire XVI TD248 when guarding RAF Sealand. Obviously taken at two times in it's career (b/w first) it's now a flyer. Next are a Javelin FAW.9 and Canberra PR.3 from Manston early/mid 1970's. Both now scrapped. Over to Aces High at North Weald approx 1983/4. The C-119 is scrapped (with the nose preserved somewhere), Meteor TT.20 with an identity crisis (extant I think), a rather sad looking Avro Lincoln (ex Southend, most of it except the nose are now Oz side. The nose incidentally I believe remains in the UK. Finally an ex FAA/Swedish target tug Skyraider (I think there were two there at the time). No idea where they are now. Thats all for now and thanks for looking Trevor Edited June 19, 2012 by Max Headroom

What unit was the aircraft from ? It's 87 Squadron. This unit flew Gloster Gladiators pre war. Kallisti
I remember the Javelin at Manston. We used to go on holiday to Westgate on Sea (it was posher then Margate, but just along the coast so we could go to Dreamland!) Every time we went there I had to have a trip out to Manston to see the planes! Then there was Pegwell Bay and the hovercraft and the Powell-Cotton Museum - ahh those were the days

Max Headroom
A few more for inspection. Again these are via I phone/Photobucket. Sorry about the quality, same excuse as above. A newly semi repainted BOAC Viscount taken at Prestwick (See Scottish Aviation hangar in the background) circa 1974 Another Viscount, this time at Speke (date unknown) Spitfire XIV taken at Duxford at auction. I believe this is from the defunct Whitehall Theatre of War. Ibelieve it is now in the Luffartmuseum Germany The nose of the ex Napier research Lincoln. Extant in this Country somewhere. Danish Allouette III. No idea where this was taken! A-7E (Greenham Common I think - year unknown). This is when grey was interesting! Max Headroom
OK - this time around it's a visit to the Science Museum Store at Wroughton when they hosted a meeting of the British Aircraft Preservation Council. The museum's philosophy is to collect examples of significant technology, not necessarily British. First off it's the Constellation G-CONI. Imported into the UK for a proposed third series of 'Airline' by Aces High, I believe it flew as far as Shannon before being marooned. It was then shipped over to the UK for the Science Museum as an example of a large post-war piston airliner. It was then painted in basic TWA colours. I'm not sure whether it has now been repainted. Then a Boeing 247 (the only one in Europe?) No idea how it ended up there The Shorts SC.1. Wingless at this point Next an example of a British pre war airliner, A De Havilland Dragon Rapide Of course it's not only aircraft stored here. These are some London bus thingies ..............and finally, this............... I know what is is Anyone with a guess? Mark
Great photos and really good to see the Viscount G-AOYG. I did most of my line training in here when she wore British Air Ferries' livery! She ended up based in Aberdeen for most of 1991 and I spent hours and hours just going back and forwards between Aberdeen and Sumburgh. Happy times! Max Headroom
Here are a few more pix that I have unearthed. All black and white, they are also again recopied courtesy of my trusty i phone so usual caveats about quality. The first batch are all from Castle Donninton/East Midlands from a visit courtesy of one of the British Aircraft Preservation Council's quarterly meetings in 1985/6. First off a Catalina. Guano suggests a long term resident. In real life this Cat was red. Next a couple of Manx Viscounts, one not quite ready to fly...... Then an Air Bridge Merchantman. Were they transitioning to Electras about this time? A UAE BAC 1-11 Next a Meatbox T.7 from its gateguard days at Woodvale. It was replaced by a Phantom. The T.7 is now a flyer, ironically I think from East Midlands! As it's on the same roll of film, I'm assuming this was also mid 80's. Hope you enjoy and thanks for looking. I'll add more as I find them! Trevor

Max Headroom
Just looked into the Viscount's history. As 9Q-CGL it took off on three engines, suffered a further engine failure on take off and crashed in a forest in the Congo in 2003. A sad end. Was this one of the last flying Viscounts? Is it too much to hope that there are any flying today? Trevor
