decal printing

Have a look at my woes in the thread below! I think all decal film seems to be produced by the same manufacturer just differently branded. Never was happy with inkjet produced decals but many are. Using a laser got me much better results but give it a go!!

I am worried about the paper being thick as i want to do soem truck 'wraps' and that needs to be able to settle over curves etc.

I cant afford to throw lots of cash at it, but I think Ill get some genuine ink and some of the crafty paper.

I think it was the liquid decal film I put over the ink jet printed decals that caused the problems. Even when I tried spraying it on the decals seemed very think - with laser decals you don't need that additional step. You can buy sheets of ink jet paper singly on E-bay if you just want to experiment - as I said there seem to be more people that get ink jet decals to work than those with fists of ham like myself who can't!!

In fact PM me your address if your printer can take paper 5.5" x 8.5" you can have the ones I bought and will never use.

OK, I want to have a go! I have a Brother DCP-585CW ink-jet printer, and Ive seen people use this paper.

Wadda you all think?

Rich, laser printing is the best but not all of us have access to one or can afford one. Inkjet decals are do-able, I have been experimenting recently. I got some Lazertran paper off E bay, about £12-13 for 8 sheets and they seem really good, even with Johnsons Clear or Micro-Film painted on over the image prior to soaking off. Remember though, no white background to the images, but apparently even this is possible, it's just that as yet I haven't managed it.

I usually scan images then drop them onto a MS Word document where they can be cropped/resized. Printing initially (obviously) onto ordinary paper before committing to the expensive decal paper, to check the results. I recently did some Airspeed Ambassador windows and doors, resized them to 1/72 scale and then copied and pasted several times down the page to fill the whole sheet, giving me a few spares to play with.

This might sound a bit 'clunky' to computer whizzos but it seems to work for me and appears to have saved me otherwise binning a possible modelling subject.

Cheers, Nige
