Zoukei Mura TA152 in 1/32

Recommended Posts

This is the result of the last two nights - i've used the Eduard photo etch fascia and side walls although I think maybe should have stuck with the original raised detail as it was very nicely moulded but :shithappens: Belts were really fiddly but I think it looks OK in the end. Going to use GUNZE RLM 81/82/83 as a late war finish and quite fancy the book on this aircraft to really get an idea of colour and unit insignia etc but £85 seems a bit bloody excessive http://www.amazon.co.uk/Focke-Wulf-152-T-H...3516&sr=8-1

Anyway should crack on and get it done over the next few weeks hopefull. As only 44 were built I'm kind of tempted to mark it up as 'mystery #45'? Can't make my mind up as the moment but plenty of time yet..

Progress so far:

Got the engine fitted now, its a nice kit with some decent engineering ideas but unless its me (anything is possible) its not the best fit in the world although nothing a little filler won't sort out. It does seem a bit pointless spending time on weathering the engine when its going to be totally hidden but its a nice piece of moulding. All in all progessing quite fast, reckon I'll have the assembly finished by the weekend and then polishing cleaning everything up prior to paint.

Crikey you're quick! I have been engaged in a war of attrition with the ZM Skyraider since last Novermber, and I'm nowhere near finished. Note to forum: the Eduard external photo etch set radiator gills will cause near insanity: the bouncing Czechs would have you attach these using tabs that are approximately 0.75mm x 0.15mm... Guess what? They broke off!

However, that Ta-152 looks pretty gorgeous!

The wing roots were sparyed silver and then maskol dabbed on before the top coat. Give it a rub once dry and in theory some worn areas appear - not sure if i'm happy or not TBH but once more weathering has been thrown at it I hope it should look reasonably convincing. Talking of which i'm not convinced this is quite the quality of manfacturer it gives the image of - there's some horrible fit issues around the cowling and engine covers needing a lot of pulling / pushing and filler . The packaging and instructions look superb but this is not even close to the Tamiya Spitfire and Mustang in this scale (I'd put it on par with some of the early Trumpeter stuff) Interested to hear if the Skyraider has the same issues?

It looks a fair size lump of a kit, whats the wingspan of it? Why have you left the mid under surface of the fuselage unpainted, a bit of artistic licence creeping in? It was only the mid section of the wing under surface that was left un painted. Pretty impressive work on such a quick build so far.

It's 17.5" across the wings - the painting is as indicated from the instructions although no idea if its accurate to the real thing

That is big! They've got that wrong then as all the fuselage was RLM76 apart from the upper surfaces. Great job with the saw tooth camouflage on the wing leading edge.

Well, on the whole the fit has been pretty good, but ZM have made some bizarre design decisions. For example, the tail section is completely separate from the main fuselage, leading to a bit of a major vertical seam all round the body. Similarly, the top of the fuselage is a separate section, and that took significant quantities of cyanoacrylate and sanding sticks to beat into place. Otherwise, pretty slick. The wing to fuselage is particularly good.

The wing fold is excellent, and the engine is an absolute work of art... Or it was before I assembled it, and tried to dress it up with Eduard PE wiring and other bits and bobs! The exhaust manifold is incredible, but fragile. This is definitely *not* for the faint-hearted, but given the combined cost of the kit, PE and optional weapons load-out I suspect the faint-hearted wouldn't be applying!

I haven't seen much evidence of anybody else tackling it out there!

Looking great!

Reminds me, After I mated the wings to fuselage, I forgot to put an internal brace inside the main wheel well. I got it in there without having to split the parts but it was a bugger. I also had a fit issue with the windscreen, the fuselage seemed a little wide, could have been an assembly oversight causing that.

Anyway, keep the pics coming, looking great!
