That's brilliant

Thanks.

Spent the evening getting the rear of the aircraft decalled.

photo-148.jpg

The micro set / sol had worked really well in the tail fin where there are some pretty uneven surfaces.

That is starting to come together now Neal, looks really good. Modelling off the agenda for me at the moment - a few domestic chores to sort out - building bookcases today. keep up the good work.

Cheers John, I'm trying to get this finished before a house move at the end of the month, then I imagine it'll be a modelling sabbatical until the 1:144 GB in February.

Decals are 95% done. I've attached the stabilisers, the white fins on the tail, the underbody bomb carriers and the refuelling probe. I've used plasticard to make the fins on the spine (already knocked them off 3 times!). I've attached some wire to 4 of the RBF tags. Must crack on with the canopy.

Dear (insert aftermarket company name here)

I'm currently build a modern 1:144 RAF Jet and I'd like to add some remove before flight tags, you make some in 1:32, 1:48 & 1:72. Where are my 1:144 tags? As my homemade efforts are all over the place.

Regards

Minor update from last night; used some old decals for the white lines on the radome and fitted the small black shark fin aerial under the radome. Attached the front screen and masked it off (I hate masking canopies). Started to make the rear canopy hinges, I was thinking about some mirrors for the main canopy but that's a step too far I think. Getting to the point where I just want to get finished now.

Really great

That looks superb ! Like your RBF tags :)

Andy

Cheers Houston

Andy,

They're a bit variable and typically I've only done the enough and no spares, but I recon with some strategic choice of location and orientation they'll do the job.

It'd be nice if there were some aftermarket options. . . .

This is a very impressive model!! I got one of these to build, I'm still debating whether to use the decals in the box or the Gulf War ones with "Debbie/Snoopy Airways" on it. However I will be using the Freightdog Models JP233's, the bombs in the kit just look weird to me. loving this build tho :) Can't wait to see it finished. :)

Kind Regards,

Dazz

Dazz,

Thanks for the comments. I've a Gulf War 1 version with the freightdog parts in mind as well, so looking forward to seeing your WIP. The kit sidewinders and ALARM look excellent, and the iron bombs look OK, but I agreed with you the LGB's look a bit wrong.

Yeah those LGB's look too fat to me, then again I think the iron bombs look wrong too. Dunno what it is about them just seem too "fat" to my eye... I dunno. I think I got about 4-5 tornados to build in my stash. I'm gonna build "Debbie", "Helen", and "Mig Eater" from the Gulf War, the "Shiny Two" Tornado GR4 from Dragon and a Luftwaffe Tigremeet scheme. Got some parts from Freightdog Models and some cockpits from Retrowings. Just need to get my other "projects" out of the way before I can start them. Still I am keeping an eye on this build and "borrowing" ideas if thats okay with yourself?

Kind Regards,

Dazz

Dazz,

Hopefully someone will do a set of Brimstones and a GR4 converstion one day. Borrow away, I look forward to seeing you Tornado WIP.

Quite a bit of progress. Given it a coat of Matt klear and a going over with some promodeller wash. Ive added some hinges to the back of the canopy and then masked and painted the two canopy parts. Spent some time swearing and attaching the RBF tags, then fixing the various pylons together.

Weathered the UC a bit and added some brake lines to the main legs.

I was really pleased to get the masking off the LRMTS and find it still had a clear window, hopefully you can make it out in the picture.

photo-151.jpg

So nearly there with the aircraft, just the UC doors to do and the canopy to attach.

photo-153.jpg

I've tried the intake covers and one fits brilliantly, the other isn't so great as there's hardly any gap to to the refuelling probe to need to think about that at bit.

Brilliant Neal. RBF tags look really good. glad to see the eyes have held out. :yikes:

John,

Thanks for the positive comments.

Well, got the UC doors on, fixed the canopy. I've made a canopy support to give it a bit more. . . Well support. I've attached the intake covers and some wire to represent the retaining cables on the full size parts.

So that's the model complete, I need to do something with the ladder and make the base.

Which one should I do, the concrete slabs or the runway section?

Turned out very nice! I would go for the concrete ramp part, looks more realistic to me. Or would a plane with open canopy, RBF-Flags and no crew onboard make any sense?

That look superb - think the 'concrete' base looks better!

B

Where did u get those lovely templates?? I would deffo go for the concrete thingy ;)

Thanks for the kind words chaps. I think the concrete looks best too.

Found this as well from the right era, need to make some chocks to go with it.

Having another look this morning the canopy prop is a bit chunky but its the thinnest evergreen rod I've got, so I might keep my eye out for some wire.

The templates are here:

Time to make the base, in the past I've used some hardboard and a picture frame but it thought I'd see how it'd work using cardboard. Couple of reasons for this:

1. Cardboard means I don't need to our into the garage

2. I can cut it without a saw

3. I thought I would be able to press some surface feature into the base, notable with a ruler along the joints between the concrete sections.

Right off we go; picture frame from ikea (two for £2), printout of the concrete apron, cardboard from an amazon delivery.

photo-161.jpg

Three layers of cardboard glued together, then cut to size.

photo-162.jpg

Clear plastic sheet removed from the frame and the card glued to the frame back

photo-163.jpg

Printout glued to the card, cut to size and rolled over the edges.

photo-164.jpg

Finished.

photo-165.jpg

I've had a go a pressing some relief into the concrete joints but they've not come out, the surface is dominated buy the ripples from the card corrugations.

Overall it's ok and I like the fact it's above the edge of the frame, but I'd might be back to hardboard of something else instead of corrugated cardboard next time.

Good idea Neal. Next time maybe you could try something like foam board, this would still give you the thickness that you like and allow you to score the relief with some light pressure.

Thanks John, yes some foam board would be a good idea. I'm not sure using PVA helped either.

Struggling to find the hour or so it's going to take to fettle the ladder and finish the whole thing off I'm afraid.

I know what you mean Neal, things have ground to a halt here too. Had the 'heir to the estate' here last week so not much chance for modelling then and SWMBO is off this week with plenty of jobs lined up for me to do. It also doesn't help when you are as slow at building models as I am. Good Luck with the move by the way.

Very impressive

Thanks chaps.

In an attempt to finally get finished I've ordered set of PE ladders as per this stunning example:

http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=234929310&hl=

There are also a couple of other items in the same order ready for the 1:144 GB. . . .

Made up the PE ladder, Blimey they were small.

Made some chocks from sprue and glued everything together.

photo-171.jpg

I'll load more pics in RFI.

Thank's to everyone who's watched and supported.

Next stop 1:144 GB.
