I am amazed a mainstream manufacturer hasnt done a Mirage IIIE/5/50/Kfir/Panther/Cheetah since the horrible old Esci/Italeri one.

You'd have thought Eduard or Hobbyboss might have done it off the back of their spookily similar IIIC moulds, which would only really require new fuselage halfs to be tooled.

PJ and High Planed should be applauded but lets hope their tooling and production quality improves a bit for this release. I have the HP Cheetah C and it is as rough as a badger's bottom.

HPM Hobbies: Home of High Planes Models

With the Finger packaging at the printers, Mirage IIID moulds being cut, time to check the 1:48 Mirage III/5 CAD designs again. We are having fun adding in a few extras.

HPM Hobbies: Home of High Planes Models

Hi Jason, now the IIID (1/72nd) tooling is close to finished we start cutting the 1/48 tooling. We wanted to make sure the panel lines would be fine enough and the single sprue for the IIID was a low risk way of doing this.

The HP Cheetah is one of the old kits made using short run technology. The more recent Mirage III kits are made using standard injection moulding, so they are already very different from the kit in your hands.

However, one of the problem they show in the new its is the one Calum highlighted: very heavy panel lines, that are really at odd with the general quality (and price) of these kits. Interestingly the old short run kits had some very fine panel lines, although yes, the rest was very rough (but generally well done).

The 1/48 kits will sure be made using the latest technology, hopefully they'll improve on the panel lines but if they don't that will not be good, especially considering the likely price of these kits.

Well only two years after the last post, with the Kinetic kit out and two on the way to me I cannot but think that this is just a little too late, unless it is exceptional and beats the Kinetic kit and offers more or other versions. Look forward to future comparison, good luck to PJ and High Planes, also just hope panel lines are finer than the 1/72 scale kits they did recently.

I just hope that is good then I can buy a few more Mirage kits.

Thanks for posting this bit of news Homebee. Hopefully some photos will appear after the test shot is revealed at the Belgium show.

Fingers crossed PJ Productions will also release some up scaled resin to enable the VBA / VBR and Chilean Elkan versions.

Not shown open the display table there was (is) the chance to have a glance at the still alive Mirage project of HiPlanes. There were the sprues of the latest testshot but no release day is a anaounced   yet. The shapes of what was shown looks good, the breakdown an d the construction of the model should be far easier than with the Kinetic kit. But the surface detail is not as delicate as on the Kc kit and some detail should be worked on (modellers would kike to see seperate scoops with opened fronts  e.g.). A two seater is also in the development line.
