smuts
Hi guys, on a few programs about Stalingrad & the siege of Leningrad there's been a lot of mention of T34's leaving the factories without paint or markings on going straight in to the battle lines just wondered if there's any photos of these? Thanks Andy.
Wayne rc
A b&w photo wouldnt show much, the kirov tank plant at Leningrad was evacuated before the seige and became a repair centre. To make a model of a Stalingrad built T34 that was made during the fighting, you would need the model 41 turret with the STZ mantlet, a lot of STZ T 34 had applique armour on glacis and turret. Dont count pictures with the 2 hatch hex mod 42 ie micky maus, these were not built at STZ I imagine that unpainted they would appear a deep rust brown with metal coloured welds standing out quite brightly
benskipper
There is an image of one leaving a factory somewhere about, but as Wayne points out as the photo is B&W it's very hard to tell, but the give away was the welds, the assy intructions chalked on the side, and the gun barrel being darker than the rest of the vehicle, which leads me to believe the vehicle was either unpainted or severly white washed. smuts
Thanks guys, yeah as I thought hearing about them is one thing, but photo evidence would be next to nothing + its the old chestnut of B&W photos & interpretation There is an image of one leaving a factory somewhere about, but as Wayne points out as the photo is B&W it's very hard to tell, but the give away was the welds, the assy intructions chalked on the side, and the gun barrel being darker than the rest of the vehicle, which leads me to believe the vehicle was either unpainted or severly white washed. Hi Ben, sure that's on World at War well that's an excuse to watch em all again Andy
