Sepecat Jaguar GR.3A FORWARD FUSELAGE MASTERS COMPLETE...MOSTLY

Definitely not a dead project. Believe it or not I think about this beast daily and fit in what work I can when I can. Here's a teaser of the latest work.

And....

....How about another video? Been a while. Not overly instructive really more demonstration and insight to the level of planning I'm undertaking.

I moved a few months ago and have been without my CNC mill and 3D printer. But those are now up an running again and producing parts. I just completed some parts for the nose gear well, that should end the major construction of the nose assembly. Next step will be to mate the nose assembly to the next section aft that encompasses the section from the intakes to the forward bulkhead for main gear well. Several of those parts have been milled as well. Photo's to follow soon. Promise!

Thanks all. I really do enjoy the CAD work, it provides some of the satisfaction of building, though no substitute. I was fun to put together the video so look for more in the future.

Hi Timmy

What's not to say! Jaw dropping work and I'm glad that you've been able to put the AP info to very good use

John

John,

Your help has been invaluable by helping me fill the gaps in my research and achieve the results I have. Again thank you and it's good to know the people who really know the aircraft approve.

Got a new part complete enough to share. The canopy frame Mk.2. This is a printed part with some styrene details added. There was a significant bit of work getting this part fitted to the fuse and cockpit sills. The canopy closes and "locks" over the cockpit seals and the canopy locks fit into receptacles on the cockpit sills. I'll post photo's of the that fitment once I have all the parts completed. The clear section is 0.040" vacuum formed acrylic. Exterior framing remains to be done as well as the hinges. With any luck this will be a operable assembly on the model.

Timmy!
P.S. I've re-posted these vids of the 16th scale version. Polishing techniques were used on this version too.

Here are a couple of follow up shots to demonstrate the fit. The canopy and sill details mesh together such that there is a press fit between the parts when the canopy is closed.

There is still lots of skin and fairing bits to be added to take care of the obvious gaps.

Amazing stuff. I'm watching eagerly for the next update.

Cheers,

Mick

Holy cow!

My you have been busy

John

I have been busy with this and other projects and also a life. There has been a lot of effort on the project just not a lot of meaningful results to share. Lots of lumps of CNC'd foam and un-trimmed printed parts that are waiting to get finished and added to the assemblies that are underway. I'm on the computer daily adding to the CAD model. I'm approaching a phase where a bunch of parts are coming together...so with any luck there should be some good updates soon. But I think this topic will always ebb and flow. Thanks everyone for hanging in there.

Hello everbody!

Big update today.  I have finally finished the forward section of the aircraft.  The parts you see represent the "base" layer of detail as these are to be cast parts.  Hence the "completed...mostly" comment.  A ton of work went into the surface, seams and joints to give this puppy a least a chance of producing good castings.  I would be so much further along is I was not building and having to worry about making copies.
