1/72 Skipjack

Recommended Posts

Flippin eck, that looks great, and as you said, ripe for R/C. I wouldn't mind getting one of those. HLJ say it's due out in April and will be around £112 on pre-order and £140 thereafter.

That's not half bad when you consider the amount of plastic in the kit.......More so when you consider what a fibreglass/resin one would be.....  ....Tony

Just found out that Dave Merrimann was the lead designer, and that's a name respected in Sub circles...

Believe it or not, there is one on the Bay of E...Moebius 1/72 USS Skipjack #01400 Pre sell due late March 2012

Hmmm. I wonder if a bit of surgery and lot of elbow grease could produce a George Washington class SSBN? :hmmm:

If I remember rightly, weren't they lengthened Skipjacks with the missile compartment slotted in?

Mike. :)

thats a 0.555m plug in 1.72 and you would also have to make the areas which come up from the sides to make the flat topped are of the deck with the missile hatches in it.

Doable but a serious amount of work. You never know you might find some drainpipe the right size at B&Q !!

Very likely - mind you, my next door neighbour's a Plumber, so might be able to get a bit of pipe off him! ;)

I've also had another thought. Revell has or is reboxing a few of Moebius's kits, I wonder if they'd do the Skipjack? It would certainly avoid the importer markup issue. :hmmm:

They just popped up on hobbyshop shelves in the states. I haven't seen the plastic for one yet (just the box at the LHS), but a buddy of mine who builds subs says he likes what he sees from the kit he acquired a couple days ago. I plan to get one when I get enough cash and the other things being in priority are purchased first, but it could be awhile. That being said, a 40 inch long model is going to create some interesting display challenges as it certainly won't fit in any of my display cases.

Oh, don't I feel a bit smug! :smartass:
