AndyC
That's going to look ace Mish - I am waiting on a special scheme for my F-16 from Hannants - they really lend themselves to this sort of thing don't they?

AnonymousDFB1
Right of we go. First up was to get the cockpit done. Not terribly impressed, I guess I have been spoilt building Tamiya kits and this Hasegawa kit is showing it's age. Next up I put some of the other bits together and mounted the cockpit in the upper fuselage. More soon...

JMChladek
I was wondering if somebody would tackle that thing! I picked up the sheet myself at the Omaha IPMS Nationals last August. I saw the original jet when it was on the airshow circuit since Souix City is not far away and we got Bat squadron birds in semi-frequently. I have no doubt it looked cool in bright sunshine under a blue sky. But under the overcast conditions I saw the plane in, the gold looked more like a present a dog would leave. The plane is somewhat notorious locally since it was the unit commander who authorized getting the thing painted. But he didn't clear it with the Air Force (even though it is an ANG bird, it is still technically an Air Force asset) and it caused a bit of controversy in the process. Still, I'll be watching this one. I wish I had taken pictures of the jet back then. One thing I can say is, DO NOT weather the plane. It was glossy and clean on the surfaces. Granted it might end up looking a bit toy-like, but the real thing looked that way as well because the gold was rather shiny and strange on a Viper. AnonymousDFB1
Thanks, that is very useful information, there isn't many photos of her let alone recoded history. From what I have been told, emphasise on the told not read. The Commander had always wanted a gold aircraft and thus told his staff to make it happen. As the AF had no gold paint they used automotive paint, namely Cadillac Gold. I was further told after the row she had to be taken to a specialist facility to be stripped and repainted and the Commander was told never to pull a stunt like that again. From the photos I have, the colour of the gold does seem to vary depending on the light at the time. Don't worry about weathering she will be pristine
