Julien
I didn't know that West Germany operated the C-130 ????? It never did, they have the transall which will be replaced with the A400. Still can't find a country that starts with an X!JV Thats because there isn't one! Julien
rossm
Thanks for all the replies, just a note that it's wasn't the maximum number of operators that puzzled me - it was the maximum number of letters of the alphabet covered by the first letter of the country - and I was working on a MiG-17 variant which triggered the thought, not that I wanted to build up to 26 MiG-17s! The maximum possible is 25 - I did find a reference to Togo(Xavante) which got me going but it turned out to mean Togo operated the Xavante version of the the MB326 or 339 (forget which). And we seem to have a tie on 24 with the C-47 and C-130.
Neil Lambess
In Spanish (or Catalan to be precise) the CH sound is replaced by an X so they spell CHILE and CHINA as XILE and XINA...... what we would need to find is a country spelt with an X in its own Native language.... i suspect thant some mediterranean countries may fit the bill......... stevehnz
You might want to add New Zealand to your list of C-47 operators, quickly, b4 I get grumpy. Steve.

I've already got an 'N' and a 'Z' for the C-47. Ross

Steve. Don't underestimate the use of types like the C-47 in Latin America: many dakotas still fly in regular services down there. Nicaragua received its first C-47 in 1948 and the local Air Force used them well into the '80s. Although they were replaced with soviet types in the air force, the type continued to be used, with even the Contra guerilla having some in their own "air force". The type was also used in illegal activities of every kind. Guess the length of service in the two countries Air Forces is comparable, not sure about the pride factor though..
