rossm
A new idea for a theme came into my head last night but I can't complete it - what is the most alphabetically diverse aircraft in terms of operators ? Here is my first attempt - any other offers? Now updated - thank you all for the inputs. I should have thought of the C-47! Looks like the Mi8 might make 23. sanguin
How do you define military? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Antonov_An-2_operators The DH Tiger Moth, Rapide and Dove were pretty alphabetically widespread, too. John

Edgar
You can add Zimbabwe to the Spitfire, since it was known as Southern Rhodesia when it owned Spitfires.

Flankerman
Mil 8/17? I've just looked through the 'Red Star' Mi-8/17 book - and every letter in the alphabet is covered...... some a few times over. Except O, Q, W & X But I expect you could find examples operated by Oman, Qatar & West Germany!!! Ken
rossm
Just updated the table, thanks for the inputs - an interesting diversion on a foggy morning while the glue dries on my Shenyang JJ-5 (Chinese 2 set MiG-17) which is destined for Bangladeshi markings. The sun has now emerged so I ought to find something to do in the garden (?), Ross

Basosz
How does spelling and alternate country names play into this? Or the name of the country in the language of that country? I've seen Holland and (The) Netherlands which makes two initial letters. Yemen is sometimes spelled Jemen. West-Germany could be the BDR (Bundes Republik Deutschland) just like East-Germany could be the DDR (Deutsche Demokratise Republik). Russia, Soviet-Union, USSR and CCCP are also pretty much the same. I'm just saying there's plenty of room for some creative interpretation here

Jennings Heilig
P 51 must be up there too. Actually not. The P-51 wasn't all that widely exported. Nothing remotely like the C-47 or (no one has mentioned) the UH-1 Huey.

Flankerman
I didn't know that West Germany operated the C-130 ????? It isn't in the Wiki list of operators..... I still reckon the Mil Mi-8/17 family can match it though......... Ken
Foxbat
I still reckon the Mil Mi-8/17 family can match it though......... From Wikipedia I can get 21 for both the Mi-8 and the Mi-24 families, although it took a it of creative thinking to get an 'F' for the -24. Mi-8 Albania, Bhutan, Canada, Djibouti, Ecuador, Finland, Germany, Hungary, India, Kenya, Laos, Madagascar, Nicaragua, Peru, Rwanda, Senegal, Tajikistan, Uganda, Vietnam, Yemen, Zambia Mi-24 Angola, Brazil, Cyprus, Djibouti, Eritrea, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Guinea, Hungary, Ivory Coast, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Mali, Niger, Peru, Rwanda, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Uganda, Venezuela, Yemen, Zimbabwe Wonder how many of those are available as decals... Enzo the Magnificent
If you are including Seafires on the Spitfire list, you can fill in the M.
