depressed lemur
Love the photos. If I remember my history, this "service" was first flown by 29 Squadron in the early days of the invasion of Normandy. I also seem to recall that when the tax man found out about this he swiftly put a stop to it, as they were not registered with customs and excise, and therefore operating illegally. The surprising thing is, No pilot said, I have a Spitfire and eight guns, gonna stop me??

Murdo
Somebody recently posted a very nice build of this which does actually exist as a kit, 1/48 I think. I responded with what I thought would be a funny reply. Out of boredom / curiosty I googled the "Kit" and found that it actually existed! A bit embarrassing. theplasticsurgeon
Fantastic photos - thanks for posting them. I've got the Kopro kit of the Spitfire IX Beer Barrel - and plan to build it as a IXe with Johnie Johnson markings. The surprising thing is, No pilot said, I have a Spitfire and eight guns, gonna stop me?? Two cannons actually - even bigger hangover

turnerdad
Fantastic pics. I read a discussion quite some time back where some Spitfire "expert" stated that the Spit never actually flew with the kegs, it was just for publicity. I think that debate is over, superb!
