Yellowed decals

Hello all,

I have a rather hard to get set of decals in the stash but they have yellowed slightly. From experience, this usually means disaster! (dissolving in water, wrinkling and so on)

Is there any way in which these can be saved?

Cheers

Dave

If they are yellowed they should respond to being left in direct sunlight. It might take several days - here in Florida the yellow bleaches out really fast if I stick them to the inside of a south facing window with Scotch/Sellotape. Just be careful that they will not get damp due to any condensation on the window. If there is a risk of that, seal the decals in a clear plastic bag before attaching them to the window.

If they are old, when the yellowing is gone, you should coat them preferably with Microsol Liquid Decal Film but Future/Klear works for me.

I'll try that, although there's not much sun here in Northern Ireland!

Well I've got 2 sets of very old Airfix decals taped to my living room window just now. One of them has been up for a couple of weeks now, but then I am living in Scotland....

On the plus side, both sets are nearly bleached out and nearly useable again, just need to add the liquid decal film once they're done. So, if it'll work in Scotland, you should have no problems in Northern Ireland!

Get your local MP to sit on the decals for a day or two - they all seem to think the sun shines out of their own backsides...
